Jung drives in a pair in Roughriders first win of the season

Saturday night was a rather crisp one for an April night. On the mound for the Roughriders was Mitch Bratt who faced off against a rehabbing Lance McCullers Jr for Corpus Christi.

The night began off rough for Bratt as he worked both of the first batters to an 0-2 count but proceeded to get on base via some weak hit singles. Bratt would then record a strike out followed by a walk to load the bases, but would escape the jam with a strikeout and a soft grounder to 1st.

After a quiet bottom half of the 1st and top half of the second. The scoreless game was broken up when with a runner on 3rd, Luis Mieses sent a ball into the Lazy River giving the Roughriders a 2-0 lead over the Hooks.

Following up the home run, Ian Moller would draw a walk followed by Osuna scorching a ball to third but 1st basemen Miguel Palma wouldn’t be able to handle the throw allowing the inning to continue. McCullers would then throw a Wild Pitch allowing Osuna to reach second and then Josh Jung would get would hit a single into shallow right center scoring 2 and making it a 4-0 ballgame.

In the top of the 3rd Hooks RF Colin Barber would hammer a ball over the Lazy River to put the Hooks on the board.

Bratt would be relieved in the 4th by Steven Jennings after 3 and 2/3 innings throwing 78 pitches and striking out 4.

Moving onto the 5th. After a 1 out walk and a Single, Jennings would mis-throw a pickoff attempt allowing the runners to move over and then the hooks would score their second run via a Garcia sac-fly.

Both teams bullpens would be efficient for the rest of the game aside from the 6th inning when Mieses singled home his 3rd RBI of the game giving the Riders a 5-2 lead.

Roughriders Bullpen wound only allow 2 hits over 5 1/3, giving up one run and striking out 9 en route to their 5-2 victory.

Josh Jung went 1-3 with 2 RBI on the night and will be back in the lineup and play the field tomorrow before flying with the team to Chicago to face the Cubs.

Frisco will play tomorrow at 4:05 before heading out to play NW Arkansas in a weekday series.
