The time has finally come! The Rangers top pitching prospect Kumar Rocker has been called up to the Rangers.
This move caught Rangers fans off guard as manager Bruce Bochy had said that it was unlikely that Kumar Rocker would be joining the team before the season ended.
However, it seemed that Rocker forced their hand. He has pitched incredible since being called up to Triple A. In his two starts, he has pitched 10 innings allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 18 strikeouts.
In those 2 starts he allowed more runs than he did in his five starts in Double A. He allowed 9 hits, 1 run, 3 walks while striking out 29 batters in 19.2 innings.
His fastball has been in prime form as it has hit triple digits and his slider is playing like the wipeout pitch that it was envisioned to be when the Rangers drafted him.
He has been a revelation for the Rangers and has outperformed any expectations that they could have had for him this year.
He will rejoin his Vanderbilt teammate Jack Leiter and the two of them will look to start the age of young Rangers pitchers.
Leiter seems to have found his stride in his most recent start against the Angels, so hopefully Rocker can replicate that.
Rocker will make his debut Thursday against the Seattle Mariners at 8:40 pm.
