Tommy John surgery has been no stranger to the Texas Rangers in recent years. From the infamous deload program, to the first offical day of pitchers and catchers reporting to Surprise, Arizona for Spring Training. The injury doesn’t seem to be preventable and can happen at any time. Left-handed pitching prospect Avery Weems, had Tommy John surgery. He posted the featured image on his Instagram account.
Weems, 25, was the Rangers number 23 ranked prospect by MLB in 2022. He pitched the entire 2022 season in Frisco where he pitched to a tune of a 2-6 win-loss with a 5.14 earned run average.
The Rangers received Weems from the White Sox as part of the Lance Lynn trade. The White Sox drafted Weems in the 6th round of the 2019 draft.
Avery is the first player in the Rangers system to need the Tommy John procedure this season.
