Day 1 Recap of the Frisco Classic
Day 1 at the Frisco Classic was a perfect day for baseball and started out at a perfect 71 Degrees with clear skies.
Game 1 LSU vs Kansas St.
3rd Inning
The scoring would get started in the 3rd when preseason SEC Freshman of the year Derek Curiel smoked a triple to left center that almost left and scored a run from 1st. Then, after an intentional walk to Jared Jones, Daniel Dickinson would lay down a sacrifice bunt to score Curiel and make it a 2-0 LSU Lead.Â
6th Inning
LSU Starting pitcher Kade Anderson was rolling through the Wildcats lineup until in the 6th when Dee Kennedy would send one over the left field wall, and then 2 pitches later for the 2nd straight weekend, Seth Dardar would make it back to back Home Runs with a Splash hit into the Lazy River tying up the game at 2 a piece.Â
7th Inning
In the 7th after a single and an Intentional walk to Jared Jones, Daniel Dickinson would make the Wildcats pay when he scorched a 3-1 pitch for an opposite-field 3-run blast to put the Tigers up 5-2!Â
However, things would falter for the pitching staff for LSU as it would take them 6 batters to get an out. The bottom half of the inning started out with 2 singles and a walk to load the bases with no outs. Maverick Ritzy would enter the game for the Tigers but would hit the first 2 batters he faced and give the Wildcats 2 runs making it a 5-4 game. Then after back-to-back line outs, Nick English would muscle an RBI single over the infield to tie up the game 5-5.Â
10th Inning
It would go silent for the next 2 innings giving the fans a little extra Baseball. The 10th would get started off with a Single and then an error by K State 2B Inoue to set up Josh Pearson who hit a go-ahead RBI Single making it 6-5. 3 Batters later it was Dickinson who would again provide the Tigers with offense lacing a single through the right side notching his 5th and 6th RBIs of the game giving LSU an 8-5 lead that would hold up and be the final score of the game.Â
Daniel Dickinson was easily named player of the game going 2-4 with a Home Run and 6 RBI in the game.
K-State put up quite the fight but the High potent LSU offense wound up being a little too much and made them pay for every little mistake they made. Â
Game 2. Nebraska vs Sam Houston
2nd and 3rd Innings
Scoring would get started when South Dakota St. transfer Cael Frost would get his first hit and his first Home Run sending it over the left field fence for an opposite-field 2-run blast making it 2-0 Huskers. Then after a really bad throwing error which would let Cayden Brumbaugh reach 3rd base, Dylan Carey would knock him home with an RBI groundout making it 3-0 in the 3rd inning.
4th and 5th Innings
In the Bottom half of the inning with 2 on and 2 out, Parker Blackman would hit an opposite-field 2-run double bringing the BearKats to within one.
Then in the 5th Inning, after a Hunter Autrey leadoff double and a sac bunt to move him over, Brady Christiensen would get him home on an RBI sac fly to Right Field, tying the game up at three a piece.
6th, 7th, and 8th innings
The rest of the game was simply dominated by the Huskers. Cael Frost would launch his second Homer of the game into the Lazy River giving the Huskers a 4-3 lead. In the 7th inning, it would start with Devin Nunez getting an RBI single that would make it a 5-3 ballgame. The very next batter would be Cayden Brumbaugh who would send a 3-2 high and in fastball out and onto the Home Run terrace giving the Huskers a 7-3 lead. The final tally would be when Hogan Hellingso would drive home Gabe Swansen giving the Huskers a 8-3 lead and that would be the final score of the game.
You could not have asked for a better day to begin the Frisco Classic and with both the Huskers and Tigers off notching 8 runs a piece, it sets up to be an exciting game between the two teams on Saturday at 4:00 PM with rumors of the game being potentially sold out.
But it was a fantastic start to the Frisco Classic and a hopeful sign of things to come from this great Baseball Weekend
