Mitch Bratt dominating the Texas League

Mitch Bratt dominating the Texas League

On July 5th, Mitch Bratt took the mound for the Frisco RoughRiders against the Arkansas Travelers and delivered another gem in his dominant 2025 campaign. The left-hander tossed six quality innings, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk while striking out eight.

This marked his sixth quality start of the season, adding to a resume that’s quietly becoming one of the best in the Texas League. The RoughRiders secured a 6-1 win, but Bratt’s performance deserves the spotlight it hasn’t fully received.

Numbers That Turn Heads

Bratt’s stats paint a picture of pure dominance. He currently leads the Texas League with 91 strikeouts over 74 innings, a testament to his ability to miss bats.

His 2.55 ERA ranks second in the league, and his 1.08 WHIP is tied for first, showing an ability to keeping runners off base.

Even more impressive, he’s issued just 12 walks all season, a stingy 1.46 BB/9 rate that highlights his command. These numbers place him among the league’s best, yet it seems he’s flown under the radar this season.

A Draft Steal Finding His Groove

Selected in the fifth round of the 2021 MLB Draft out of Georgia Premier Academy, Bratt signed for $850,000 which was above-slot and a bet on his talent.

The Newmarket, Ontario native has steadily climbed the Rangers’ prospect ladder and wow, at 22, he’s thriving in Double-A.

Back on Media Day, Bratt shared insight into the Rangers’ pitching development, noting the organization’s balance of “technology-based information and then kind of what your eyes are going to tell you.” And right now, the eyes are telling everyone that Bratt is having a stellar season.

Refining the Craft

Bratt’s success in 2025 stems from tangible improvements. He confirmed on Media Day that he’s worked on his delivery, saying he “kind of shortened things up” after having “a lot of moving parts.” The result? He’s throwing a little harder, adding life to his already deceptive arsenal.

Bratt now has five pitches: a fastball, cutter, changeup, slider, and a curveball added late last season.

RoughRiders’ Second-Half Struggles

While Bratt’s been a model of consistency, the RoughRiders have stumbled to a 4-8 record in the second half of the Texas League season.

Bratt’s starts have give Frisco a fighting chance just about every time out. Against Arkansas, the bats backed him with six runs, including an RBI-single from Keith Jones II, who’s settling in after his recent promotion to Double-A.

Why Bratt Deserves the Hype

In a Rangers system headlined by prospects like Sebastian Walcott, Bratt’s name doesn’t always lead the conversation. But his performance demands attention. His 91 strikeouts currently leads the Texas League, and his 2.55 ERA trails only San Antonio's Henry Baez.

Bratt's 1.08 WHIP is currently 2nd in the Texas League and he has issues just 12 walks — really good for a 22-year-old in the hitter-friendly Texas League. His six quality starts, including the July 5th masterpiece, show a reliability that’s hard to overlook.

The Road Ahead

Bratt’s dominance has sparked talk of a possible Triple-A call-up to Round Rock before the season’s end, especially if he keeps carving up Double-A lineups.

His five-pitch mix, improved velocity, and elite command suggest a future as a mid-rotation starter, with room to grow as he refines his arsenal. For now, he’s focused on stacking quality starts and helping Frisco climb the standings. If he keeps pitching like this, the Texas League’s best-kept secret won’t stay hidden much longer.
