No. 10 OU takes down Texas Tech in midweek showdown

In a midweek match up here in Frisco, the Texas Tech Red Raiders would square off against a No. 10 ranked Oklahoma Sooners ball team.

The wind was howling towards the outfield to begin the game and OU came out of the box swinging as on the second pitch of the game Sophomore Jason Walk turned on an inside fastball and sent it onto the outfield lawn to give OU a quick 1-0 lead.

OU starter Cam Johnson would simply not have in his start as he threw just 24 pitches and only 8 of them for strikes as he would load the bases for Texas Tech putting OU in real danger in the first inning. After a pitching change the damage was limited to a Robin Villeneuve sac-fly and then the inning was stopped thanks to a big double play.

After a quiet 2nd the OU bats would pickup again in the 3rd when they plated 3 Runs thanks to a Sam Christiansen Bloop RBI single, who was then played by a Dasan Harris 2 Out RBI single through the right side, and then a Jason Walk RBI Double which Harris scored on thanks to the throw from left field bouncing off of him and allowing him to score easily. Finally the inning was capped off by Easton Carmichael ripping a single just past the shortstop making it a 5-1 OU lead after a 4 Run 3rd.

In the 4th Jaxon Willits would use the howling Texas winds and lift a ball the opposite way into left field for a solo shot making it 6-1.

Then we head to the 6th where Villeneuve would notch his 2nd RBI of the night with an opposite field single. OU Second baseman Kyle Branch would make a multiple run saving play as he would steal a hit away getting the out at 1st only allowing 1 Raider to score making it an 6-3 ballgame.

Easton Carmichael then tomahawked a high heater very high and very far into left field for a 2 Run Blast giving OU a 8-3 lead in the 7th.

Logan Hughes would continue his great day at the play for Tech at the plate when in the 8th he would launch a heater the opposite way to left field hitting the home run terrace making it an 8-4 ballgame.

Seeking three runs in the ninth, Tech got off to a good start when Antonelli Savaterre pinch hit and tripled home Kendyl Johnson to begin the frame. With Savattere on third, OU turned to one of the top closers in the nation in Dylan Crooks to shut down Tech. Crooks retired the first two batters swiftly before allowing an RBI infield hit to Logan Hughes marking the fourth time he had been on base. With that it brought up the 2023 Juco home run leader in Villeneuve but would ultimately hit the ground to the shortstop who flipped the ball to second base for the force out and completing the win for the sooners.

The OU bats were alive Tuesday night as they had 14 hits and six of them went for extra bases. They’re pitching on the other hand only allowed five hits although allowing seven walks on top of that, allowing Tech to stay in this game throughout the night.

Oh, you lead off man Jason Walk was by far the player of the night even earning the honors of SEC loud performance of the night. Walk went 3-4 with two doubles, a home run, two walks, and two RBIs!
