The Rangers are sending 22 year old lefty Garrett Horn to the Twins in exchange for the Lefty. Horn a 6th round pick from last year’s draft, and has been at Single-A Hickory throwing a 2.92 ERA in 24.2 IP this season coming fresh of a Tommy John Surgery. It’s a cheap price to pay for a Lefty who can make an immediate impact in a less than ideal bullpen for the Rangers.
Coulombe (35) has a 1.16 ERA in 40 appearances so far in 2025. The 11 year veteran has quietly been one of the best left handed relievers over the last few years having a 2.12 last year, 2.81 in 2023, and a 1.46 in 2022. Averaging a 2.11 ERA over his last 3 seasons which is first amongst qualified relief pitchers in Baseball.
Coulombe has one of the better curveballs in the league which can be a weapon to get out Right handed hitters who are hitting a Micro .164 vs the lefty, and all hitters have a measly .456 OPS. Coulombe will not be the Rangers closer so it’s either the Rangers are not done yet at the deadline or will be sitting with Garcia as the closer for the rest of 2025.
