Walcott’s Futures Game Spotlight
Sebastian Walcott, the Texas Rangers’ top prospect, stepped onto the big stage at the 2025 Futures Game, representing the American League at third base and batting seventh. The 19-year-old went 0-for-1 but drove in a run on a sac-fly.
RoughRiders’ Tough Night in Amarillo
The Frisco RoughRiders fell 5-3 to the Sod Poodles at Hodgetown, dropping to 44-41 on the season.
Pitching: Mitch Bratt, who’d held the Sod Poodles to one run in each of his prior two starts against them, ran into trouble in the third. A three-run homer by Manuel Pena put Frisco behind.
Bratt went five innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits, 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts, throwing 86 pitches (61 strikes) with 13 swing-and-misses.
It was his 15th start of 2025, with only three outings allowing three or more runs and six quality starts to his name—Triple-A Round Rock is calling. Josh Mollerus (1-2, 6.14 ERA) took the loss, while Sod Poodles reliever Jose Cabrera earned the win with three scoreless innings, allowing 1 hit, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
Hitting: Frainyer Chavez got the RoughRiders rolling with a two-run homer in the second. Keith Jones II tied it at 3-3 in the sixth with a force-out that drove in a run, but the bats couldn’t keep up. Amarillo’s Jean Walters delivered the dagger with a two-run walk-off homer in the ninth.
Round Rock Powers Past Isotopes
The Round Rock Express rolled to a 5-1 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes, leaning on a trio of home runs and solid pitching. With Frisco’s electric crowds setting the bar, Round Rock’s faithful are surely buzzing after this one.
Pitching: Josh Sborz, on a rehab stint from the Rangers, started and threw 0.2 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout on 26 pitches (15 strikes) with no runs. Michael Plassmeyer followed with 5.2 innings of one-run ball, giving up 5 hits, 1 walk, and fanning 7 on 67 pitches (45 strikes). Cole Winn sealed it with 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 strikeout, and hitting 96.6 mph on 41 pitches (30 strikes). Winn’s tossed 28.2 innings in Triple-A without an earned run—why’s he still down there?
Hitting: Blaine Crim, Dustin Harris, and Alan Trejo each launched a home run, with Crim and Harris collecting two hits apiece. The power display carried the Express to a comfortable victory.
Spartanburgers Blanked by Emperors
The Hub City Spartanburgers had a night to forget, getting shut out 10-0 by the Rome Emperors. The offense and pitching both struggled, leaving Hub City at 43-42 on the season.
Pitching: Starter Mason Molina (0-2, 4.11 ERA) had his shortest outing of 2025, lasting 1.2 innings and allowing 5 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks, no strikeouts, and a wild pitch on 45 pitches (26 strikes). It was his fourth start for the Spartanburgers, and the lefty couldn’t find his groove.
Hitting: The bats were ice-cold, managing just two hits: Arturo Disla went 1-for-3, and John Taylor was 1-for-2 with a walk. The Spartanburgers drew three walks but struck out seven times, unable to spark any offense.
Crawdads Shut Out Hillcats
The Hickory Crawdads blanked the Lynchburg Hillcats 4-0, riding stellar pitching and a balanced attack at the plate.
Pitching: Starter Caden Scarborough (1-4, 3.50 ERA) notched his first win of the season, tossing five innings of two-hit ball with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts on 72 pitches (44 strikes). The bullpen backed him up, with Jake Jekielek and Kyle Larsen each throwing two scoreless innings.
Hitting: Hector Osorio led the way, going 3-for-5 with a triple and an RBI. Antonis Macias and Pablo Guerrero each had two-hit games, with Guerrero adding an RBI.
ACL Rangers Outlast Mariners
The ACL Rangers topped the ACL Mariners 9-6, driven by a scorching top of the lineup. The bats carried the day, improving the team to 28-23.
Pitching: Starter Enyel Lopez went 2.2 innings, allowing 1 hit, 4 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Wily Villar earned the win in relief, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks, and 1 strikeout over two innings. The staff walked 12 and struck out 12, a wild but effective outing.
Hitting: The top four hitters went 8-for-18 with 9 RBIs. Yolfran Castillo led with a 3-for-5 night and 3 RBIs. Deward Tovar went 2-for-5 with a triple and 3 RBIs, Braylin Morel was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, and Angel Arredondo went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
DSL Rangers Blue Fall to Marlins
DSL Rangers Blue couldn’t keep up, dropping a 10-2 decision to the DSL Marlins, falling to 8-22 on the season. The bats and pitching both struggled in this one.
Pitching: Starter Frederik Dolsi (0-3, 5.40 ERA) went 3.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts. It was a tough outing for the right-hander, who couldn’t slow the Marlins’ attack.
Hitting: Emil Martinez, the DH, led with a 2-for-4 day and a run scored. Steven Santos went 1-for-4 with an RBI in the second, but no other Blue player had multiple hits, leaving the offense stagnant.
DSL Rangers Red Rally Past Miami
DSL Rangers Red pulled out 7-6 win over DSL Miami. The win moved them to 20-10 on the season.
Pitching: Gilberto Lopez started, going five innings and allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Jefferson Encarnacion (12.00 ERA) earned the win with two scoreless relief innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts.
Hitting: Marco Argudin starred, going 3-for-4 with two triples, a single, and an RBI. Elorky Rodriguez (.337) went 2-for-3 with a walk, Oliver Guerrero was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk, and Yeisy Celesten matched Guerrero’s 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.
Jose Marcano drove in 2 runs, going 1-for-4. Manni Ramirez went 0-for-4 but scored on a wild pitch by DSL Miami’s Fernando De La Rosa in the ninth, with Celesten advancing to third and Santiago Almao to second. Ramirez also had two outfield assists at second. De La Rosa took the loss for Miami.
