Rangers Fourth Week of Spring Training Recap

March 9th-

The Rangers face the Arizona Diamondbacks in this one, Nathan Eovaldi is starting this one. This was not a very good game for the Rangers all around. The only run that was scored for them was on a Joc Pederson double in the 6th inning. The first 3 pitchers for the Rangers gave up 14 runs. Robert Garcia, David Buchanan, and Marc Church threw scoreless innings though. Marc Church struck out 2 hitters. The Rangers had a nightmare of a 5th inning where Codi Heuer and Daniel Missaki gave up 10 runs. The Rangers lost this game 14-1 to the DBacks.

March 10th-

The Rangers did not play on Monday.

March 11th-

Tyler Mahle was set to start this game against the Angels but he was scratched due to some forearm soreness. Jack Leiter started this game instead. Leiter was kind of dominant but also wild. Jack walked 5 hitters in his 2 2/3 innings of work, but he also struck out 5 hitters. He even struck out 4 hitters in a row swinging. The Rangers got on the board early in this one. Marcus Semien led off the bottom of the 1st with a solo home run. Then Corey Seager reached on an error, Wyatt Langford singled, Josh Jung singled as well, and Jake Burger walked to force in a run to extend the Rangers lead to 2-0. Kyle Higashioka walked as well and the Rangers put another run on the board to make it a 3-0 ballgame. The Angels finally got an out on a sacrifice fly, but the Rangers scored yet again. The Angels finally got out of the inning after the Rangers scored 4 runs. In the bottom of the second inning Wyatt Langford added more to the Rangers run column with a 2-run home run. Wyatt Langford again added a run for the Rangers in the bottom of the 3rd on an RBI single, the Rangers now lead 7-1. Kyle Higashioka added to the lead in the bottom of the 4th with a solo home run. The Rangers have scored in every inning so far, but it doesn’t stop there. In the bottom of the 5th, Johnathan Ornelas hit an RBI single, and Alan Trejo grounded into a double play to drive in a run. David Festa came into the pitch after Leiter and was good. He struck out 3 hitters and gave up 2 hits in 1 1/3 inning. Emiliano Teodo pitched in the 8th inning and didn’t let up a base runner while striking out a hitter. Marc Church finished this game out but let up a 2-run home run after a walk. The Rangers won the game 13-6 over the Angels. 

March 12th-

The Rangers sign Hunter Strickland to a minor league deal.

Today is officially the day that Rangers Sports Network is born. Today’s game will be the first broadcast.

The Rangers are set to play the Reds in this one. It was a “bullpen game” for the Rangers, Shawn Armstrong was today’s starter. Joc Pederson got the Rangers on the board in the first inning with a 3-run home run to the opposite field. The Rangers only scored one more run on a sacrifice fly from Jonah Helm in the 4th inning, but 4 runs is all they would need. Rangers pitching was good today except for Hoby Milner he gave a 3-run double which was all that the Reds did in the game. Jacob Webb 1 2/3 innings striking out 2 hitters and giving up 1 hit, he was credited with the win. Joe Barlow threw 1 inning striking out 2 hitters, he was credited with the save. Chris Martin, Luke Jackson, J.T. Chargois, Robert Gracia, and Caleb Boushley all worked through scoreless innings. 

March 13th-

The Rangers faced off against the San Francisco Giants today With Patrick Murphy starting this one. He worked through 3 innings allowing 2 hits, and striking out 2 hitters. Gerson Garabito came in after Murphy to get 3 innings of his own. Garabito gave up 3 hits, and 2 runs, but struck out 3 hitters. David Buchanan came in after Garabito and threw 3 innings as well. Buchanan only struck out 1 hitter, but gave up 3 hits and 1 run. Adolis Garcia got the Rangers on the board in the 2nd with a solo home run to center field. The Rangers were down by 1 in the 5th inning, but Marcus Semien tied the game on an RBI single that scored Nick Ahmed, the game was tied 2-2. The Rangers took the lead in the 7th inning. Tucker Barnhart doubled to drive in Nick Ahmed, and Wyatt Langford drove in Anthony Gutierrez on a single, the Rangers lead 4-2. The Rangers weren’t done there. In the top of the 8th inning Alejandro Osuna continues his impressive spring with a 3-run home run to extend the Rangers lead to 7-2. The Rangers won this one 7-3 one the Giants.

March 14th-

The Rangers played some split squad baseball today against the Rockies and the Padres.

Jon Gray gets the start against his former team the Rockies. He continued his good spring in this start, he threw 3 innings striking out 2 hitters and he gave up 4 hits. However he left the game after a ball was hit off of his right wrist. The rest of the Rangers had scoreless appearances. Adrian Houser threw 2 2/3 innings while striking out 4 hitters. Joe Barlow then came in to finish the 6th inning, and got a strikeout to end the inning. Marc Church in his inning of work didn’t give up any hits, and he struck out 2 Rockies hitters. Jesse Chavez got 3 Rockies hitters to strike out in his inning of work. Adolis Garcia drove in 3 of the Rangers 5 runs. He hit a 2-run home run in the 1st inning. Corey Seager was the other player to get the Rangers runs. He had a 2-run single in the bottom of the 2nd to extend the Rangers lead 4-0. Adolis Garcia was hit by a pitch in the same inning with the bases loaded. The Rangers won this game 5-0.

Kumar Rocker gets the start against the San Diego Padres for the Rangers second game. Pitching was not great in this one for the Rangers. Only two pitchers didn’t give up any runs. Those two guys being Caleb Boushley and Jacob Maton. Rocker once again had a rough outing. He gave up a home run, walked 2 hitters, 4 hits, and 3 runs. He did strike out 2 hitters though. Sam Haggerty in the first inning got 2 runs on the board for the Rangers on a 2-run double. Evan Carter then broke the tie in the 3rd inning on an RBI single. In the same inning Dustin Harris and Kevin Pillar both had RBI singles, Pillar’s was a 2-run single. The Rangers now lead 6-2. Theo Hardy in the 5th put another run on the board for the Rangers on an RBI double, and in the 8th inning Hector Osorio singled to drive in another run for the Rangers. The Rangers lost 8-9 against the Padres.

March 15th-

The Rangers face off against the Athletics in this one, the Rangers again have a “bullpen game”. They sent a total of 9 pitchers out to the mound in this game. Corey Seager was the only Ranger to drive in runs in this game. He drove in all 4 of the Rangers runs on two 2 RBI doubles. That’s all the Rangers would need to win this one though. J.T. Chargois, Chris Martin, Jacob Webb, Robert Garcia, Luke Jackson, Robby Ahlstrom, Avery Weems, and Reid Berlingmair all pitched scoreless innings in this game. Hunter Strickland gave up 3 runs and was the only pitcher who gave up runs in this game. The Rangers beat the Athletics 4-3.

News came out that Cody Bradford would not be throwing for 4 weeks because of elbow soreness, and Jon Gray will not throw for 6 weeks due to a fractured wrist that he got the day before.
