The Texas Rangers have called up their 7th ranked prospect, Josh Smith on Memorial Day prior to the game.
Smith, 25 in August, was just one piece of the Joey Gallo trade. He was originally drafted by the Tigers in the 38th round of the 2016 draft but went to college at LSU. He was then drafted by the Yankees in the 2nd round of the 2019 draft. When Smith was traded to the Rangers, he became one of the Rangers top ranked prospects at number six.
Smith has spent the 2022 season with the Rangers Triple-A affiliate, the Round Rock Express where he player in 40 of the team’s 48-games so far this season.
This season with Round Rock he had 12 multi-hit games including the recent game when he went 4-for-6 with 4 runs batted in.
Smith has some versatility as he’s played multiple positions. He started 17 games at third, 14 at shortstop and 9 at center field.
He slashed a line of .273/.382/.422/.805 with 4 home runs, 29 RBI, 24 walks, 39 strikeouts and 8 stolen bases.
Josh Smith got a hit in his 1st Major League at bat. It was a single to right field. Josh went 3-for-4 with 2 runs tonight in his MLB debut. He also became the 177th former RoughRider to make their major league debut.

Zak Reks was also recalled from Round Rock. Reks had literally been on fire in the series against Albuquerque hitting a line of .550/.591/1.250/1.841 with 4 home runs and 9 RBI.
