Sebastian Walcott hits a homer in wild game

Hub City Spartanburgers

The Spartanburgers took the lead in the series against the Emperors with a 6-1 win. Anthony Gutierrez and Quincy Scott were the top performers in the lineup with three hits and one RBI each. Scott gave the Spartanburgers the early lead in the third inning with a double to bring in John Taylor.

Malcolm Moore would also be a key factor in the lineup as he contributed a pair of RBIs with a groundout in the fifth to double the lead. He would also add another insurance run in the ninth inning to extend the lead to 5-1.

Arturo Disla was the last batter in the lineup to knock runs in. He had a pair of hits to bring in a pair of RBIs to help the Spartanburgers pull up the win. The pitching was good for Hub City as Kolton Curtis worked as an opener, completing three hitless innings while striking out three.

Dylan MacLean would get the majority of the innings and pick the win. He put together five strong innings with just one run against him on six hits and one walk. He fanned three batters. Victor Simeon got the last inning and was able to keep the Emperors off the board.

Frisco Roughriders

It was looking like the Roughriders were going to be able to cruise to an easy win against the Sod Poodles, then the Frisco bullpen had a meltdown.

It started in the eighth inning with the RoughRiders up 11-2. Avery Weems was on the bump and had a rough inning. The Sod Poodles scored four runs before he even recorded an out. However, there were two big errors that allowed a pair of unearned runs to score.

Ryan Waldschmidt hit a RBI triple and scored on a throwing error from Sebastian Walcott as he tried to gun him down at third. Abimelec Ortiz would have a throwing error too and turned what should have been a double play or at least a force out into another run for the Sod Poodles.

They would get another run on a balk before Weems was able to get out of the inning. It was a bad inning for the Roughriders, but they were still up four and just needed to get through the ninth inning.

The ninth inning didn’t go much better than the eighth. Travis MacGregor would come to close the game out and he would allow a double to the first hitter then he would quickly get the first two outs.

However, the Sod Poodles would rally with two outs. They would load the bases and MacGregor would walk in a run and give up a two RBI single making the Sod Poodle deficit one run.

Gavin Collyer would relieve MacGregor and try to win the game. He would allow the tying run to score on a single from Gavin Conticello. Collyer would get out of the inning and the game would go onto extras.

Cam Cauley would come in clutch for Frisco and delivered an RBI single to put the Roughriders in front. The Sod Poodles would tie the game in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly.

The Roughriders would not score in the 11th inning and the Sod Poodles would walk it off with a single.

This meltdown overshadowed the solid performance from No.20 prospect Josh Stephan who pitched five innings allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

On the bright side for Frisco they got good contributions from No.1 prospect Sebastian Walcott who hit a two-run home run. He needed it as he was going through a cold streak and hopefully they can help him get through it.

No.16 prospect Cam Cauley led the team with three hits and knocked in a pair.

Round Rock Express

The Express suffered an extra innings loss 3-2 in 10 innings. The Express took the lead in the second inning with a two spot. It started with Justin Foscue who singled to start the inning, Cooper Johnson doubled putting both of them in scoring position.

Kellen Strahm knocked in the first run with a single. Strahm would steal home during the next at bat. It was his 29th stolen base of the year.

The Express went with a bullpen game with Ty Blach going 2.1 innings with no hits and three strikeouts. Aidan Anderson was next allowing one run on one hit with two walks in 2.2 innings and two strikeouts.

Joe Barlow, the Rangers former closer, pitched in two scoreless innings only allowing one hit, one walk, and got three strikeouts. Craig Kimbrel, who the Rangers picked up off waivers, threw one scoreless inning.

Robby Ahlstrom was called upon to get the save and it didn’t go well for him. He allowed a sacrifice fly to Sterlin Thompson to tie the game up at two.

Peyton Gray got the loss in the 10th inning as he allowed a walk-off single to Jose Torres.

It was not a good day for the minor league bullpens, with the Roughriders and Express taking tough losses at the end.
