Two Riders Make the Texas League Postseason All-Star Team
On Tuesday, Minor League Baseball unveiled its Texas League Awards and All-Star teams, and two key players from the Frisco RoughRiders earned honors.
Third baseman Cody Freeman and outfielder Alejandro Osuna were each selected to the All-Star team at their respective positions, capping off strong 2024 seasons.
Cody Freeman: A Defensive and Offensive Force
Cody Freeman, also named the 2024 Rangers Minor League Defender of the Year, showcased his versatility and consistency all season long.
Over 123 games with Frisco, Freeman slashed .264/.320/.432/.752, leading the RoughRiders in several key categories, including games played, doubles (33), total bases (203), and extra-base hits (44).
His production at the plate wasn’t just limited to team success—Freeman led the entire Texas League in doubles and extra-base hits, while finishing third in total bases and sixth in hits (124).
He set a career-high with 14 home runs, proving his power is developing alongside his consistent contact ability.
But it’s Freeman’s defense that truly set him apart. In an era where many focus on offensive stats, Freeman committed just four errors throughout the season, posting an outstanding .986 fielding percentage.
Among all Minor League Baseball players who played over 100 games at third base, shortstop, or second base, Freeman committed the fewest errors at a single position. That level of defensive excellence is rare, and his glove should not go unnoticed.
Alejandro Osuna: A Mid-Season Surge
Alejandro Osuna joined Frisco from the High-A Hickory Crawdads on June 28th, but the outfielder wasted no time making an impact.
Osuna was a force from the moment he arrived, racking up nine extra-base hits in his first eight games. Over his 57 games with the RoughRiders, the left-handed slugger posted an impressive slash line of .306/.379/.523/.902, driving in 32 runs, scoring 46 times, and swiping seven bases.
His stint in Double-A Frisco saw him finish first in the Texas League in doubles (18) and hits (72), while placing fourth in batting average and third in OPS.
For a player who wasn’t even with the team for the entire season, those numbers speak volumes about his consistency and ability to perform under pressure.
Osuna’s rise through the system earned him recognition as the 2024 Texas Rangers Minor League Player of the Year, as well as the No. 16 spot on MLB.com’s Rangers prospect list. His combination of power, contact, and speed makes him one of the more exciting young players to watch.
