The Texas Rangers have had a solid draft so far during the first 10 rounds. That’s a good thing because this draft is an important one for the future of this team.

We figured now is a good time to get a Texas Rangers 2021 draft recap in. This post will be updated later with the number 11-20 picks of the Texas Rangers 2021 draft.

Who did the Texas Rangers draft in 2021?

Jack Leiter: P

Round One: # 2 pick overall | Slot Value: $7,789,900

Age: 21 | Height: 6’1 | Weight: 205 | Bats: R Throws: R

College: Vanderbilt University

2021 stats:

By now most Rangers fans know that the Rangers selected Jack Leiter out of Vanderbilt University with the 2nd overall pick. Leiter was probably the smartest and one of the most obvious picks for the Rangers and definitely pleased most of the fans.

Aaron Zavala: OF

Round Two: # 38 pick | Slot Value: $1,952,300

Age: 21| Height: 6’0 | Weight: 193| Bats: L | Throws: R

School: University of Oregon

I love the pick of Zavala for the Rangers. They need more bats in the system and he fits their recent selection of college hitters in the last couple of drafts.

Cameron Cauley: SS

Round Three: # 73 | Slot Value: $857,400

Age: 18 | Height: 5’10 | Weight: 170 | Bats: R Throws: R

School: Barbers Hill High School

Stats:

Ian Moller: C

Round four: # 103 | Slot Value: $565,600

Age: 18 | Height: 6’1 | Weight: 207 | Bats: R Throws: R

School: Wahlert HS

Moller did not play High School baseball in 2021. You can imagine that the Rangers will have go well over slot to convince him to skip college and sign. This article indicates that he will sign for above slot.

Perfectgame shows his 60-yard dash time at 7.06 and a C POP of 1.80 which is the time it takes for the catcher to receive the ball in their mitt to when the fielder is expected to receive the thrown ball.

Mitch Bratt: P

Round Five: # 134 pick | Slot Value: $418,200

Age: 18 | Height: 6’1 | Weight: 190 | Bats: L Throws: L

School: Georgia Premier Academy (Statesboro, GA)

According to Canadianbaseballnetwork.com he had a 3-1 record with a 1.62 ERA with Georgia Premier Academy Sox in eight games – six of those were starts. He walked 16 and struck out 59 in 30 1/3 innings. Opposing batters hit .130 against him.

The Rangers have signed Mitch Bratt.

Chase Lee: P

Round Six: # 164 | Slot Value: $312,400

Age: 23 next month | Height: 6’0 | Weight: 170 | Bats: R | Throws: R

School: University of Alabama

Stats: 7-0 record. 7 saves. He pitched 40.2 innings with a 1.33 earned run average, 14 walks, 51 strikeouts.

He is a side-arm reliever and the current career record holder for ERA by a reliever at 1.87 for Alabama.

I saw an article that indicated Lee has signed with Texas and will start in AA. I am still waiting to confirm that.

Bradford Webb: P

Round Seven: # 194 | Slot Value: $243,000

Age: 23 | Height: 6’3 | Weight: 200 | Bats: R Throws: R

School: Virginia Commonwealth University

In his one season at Virginia Commonwealth he had a 3-1 record with a 3.16 earned run average in 17 games, 14 of those were starts. In his 57 innings, he only issued 13 walks and struckout 57.

Larson Kindreich: P

Round Eight: # 224 | Slot Value: $191,500

Age: 22 | Height: 6’4 | Weight: 215 | Bats: L Throws: L

School: Biola University

In 8 games with Biola he had a 4-2 record with a 3.83 earned run average. He walked 20 batters and struckout 58 in 47 innings pitched.

Liam Hicks: C

Round Nine: # 254 | Slot Value: $161,400

Age: 22 | Height: 5’11 | Weight: 185 | Bats: L Throws: R

School: Arkansas State University

Stats:

CJ Widger: P

Round ten: # 284 | Slot Value: $149,300

Age: 22 | Height: 6’6 | Weight: 175 | Bats: L Throws: L

School: Rowan College of South Jersey

Stats: 8-0 record this year for Rowan College, 6 starts, 1.26 earned run average with a 10.74 K/9 rate.

The Rangers have until August 1st to sign their draft picks. It’s not hard to imagine them not being to sign some of these players. They selected Will Taylor who is committed to Clemson their 19th pick and it is very doubtful that he will have a change of heart and sign.
