Frisco College Baseball Classic

The Preview of the Frisco Classic

This weekend begins the Frisco Classic, where we will see 4 Division One Collegiate teams face off in a 3-day tournament. This year, the four teams will include Sam Houston State, Nebraska, Kansas State, and College Baseball powerhouse LSU.

Nebraksa

Nebraska came into the season ranked at #24 and started the season on a high note when they took 2 out of 3 in the MLB Desert Invitational, including a big win against a ranked Vanderbilt team. However, since then it’s been tough treading for the Huskers as they’ve been hitting .217 as a team meanwhile, opponents are hitting .256 against their pitching staff. They will surely be facing tough competition on both sides of the ball and coming off a series loss to the Rajun Cajuns, they will be looking to up their stock again and be one of the top 25 in the Nation.

Sam Houston

The Bearkats have had a rough start to their 2025 campaign despite being led by Sr. 1B Hunter Autrey who is starting the season hot already launching 3 homers with an OPS of 1.254. The Offense has not been an issue with the Bearkats averaging 4.6 Runs per game, it’s been the pitching which opponents are seeing beachballs up at the plate averaging 7.25 runs a game vs the staff. They will surely be put to the test against a highly potent LSU team, a Kansas State team that’s caught fire, and a pre-season top-25 team in Nebraska that can catch fire at any given moment. Sam Houston is surely the underdogs in this year’s Classic.

Kansas State

There might not be a hotter team coming into the tournament than Kansas State. On the surface, their 4-4 record would have you questioning that statement, but at a deeper look, Kansas State just finished off a 3-0 performance at the Amegy Bank College Series in which they took on #5 Arkansas, #22 TCU and a very stout Michigan team in which the Wildcats pitching staff was out of this world allowing just 5 runs in 3 games while facing the first class baseball programs. The Wildcats will be led by Maximus Martin who is on another level right now, hitting .444 with a 1.302 OPS, and Seth Dardar who’s hitting .407 with a 1.284 OPS. Kansas St will need both guys and their pitching staff, who despite their astounding weekend still have an ERA of 5.22 to be on their top game while playing these programs of the weekend

LSU

The clear favorite of the Classic is the #3 Ranked team in the nation the LSU Tigers. The LSU program is always a tough team even on their down years but this year they are slated to once again make a run at the title and have started off the 2025 campaign 6-1. The team is slashing a ridiculous .324 with a .967 team OPS. If those stats aren’t eye-popping enough the Tigers’ Pitching staff has a team ERA of 1.52 with 106 K’s in 77 IP. To highlight some players, LSU has Jr. Jared Jones who slugged 28 HRs last year while hitting over .300, the 2025 SEC preseason freshman of the year Derek Curiel who’s off to a scorching start hitting .438 with an 1.155 OPS, and No. 5 in the 2024 Recruiting class RHP William Schmidt. It’s going to be beyond fun watching this Tigers team over the weekend and will surely be something you won’t want to miss.
