Around the Farm 4/17/19

There are a couple of headlines? involving a couple of top Rangers prospects.

Bubba Thompson will be out 4 weeks after surgery for his hamate bone. This is the same type of injury that Delino DeShields had last year.

The other news is Julio Pablo Martinez was promoted to Down East.

The Rangers also signed free agent right-handed pitcher Jen-Ho Tseng to a minor league contract. He played for the Cubs in 3 games in 2017-18. He will go to extended spring in Arizona to begin throwing program.

Let’s go ahead and recap some highlights of the games.

Nashville Sounds (4-10)

The Sounds lost to the Round Rock Express 8-2.

Richelson Pena (1-2, 4.82) got the start and pitched 6.2 innings allowing 7 runs on 8 hits, including a home run. He struck out 5 while throwing 88 pitches.

Line-up

Eli White, who started at Center Field, went 3-5 with a run and a strikeout. His average is .231.

Willie Calhoun went 1-4 with an RBI and 2 strikeouts. His average is at .255.

Chase d’Arnaud went 3-4 bringing his batting average to .545.

Frisco RoughRiders (8-5)

The RoughRiders were shut out by the Corpus Christi Hooks 8-0.

Jonathan Hern?ndez (1-1, 3.45) got the start and pitched 5 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. 2 of the 5 hits were home runs.

Blake Bass (2.70) pitched 1.2 innings out of the pen and allowed 3 runs, 2 earned on 3 hits, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. These were the first runs that he has allowed so far this year.

Line-up

This line-up only managed to get 4 hits and Alex Kowalczyk got 2 of those 4. He was 2-4 with 1 strikeout and he is hitting .429 on the year.

Eliezer Alvarez and Tony Sanchez had 1 hit a piece.

Down East Wood Ducks (10-4)

It took 11 innings but the Wood Ducks beat the Salem Red Sox by a final of 5-4.

Left-handed pitcher Jake Latz (0.00) got the start for the Wood Ducks. He pitched 3 innings, allowing 1 un-earned run on 2 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.

The Wood Ducks used a total of 7 pitchers.

Right-handed pitcher Cole Uvila came on in relief and pitched 1.1 innings and struck out all 4 batters!

DeMarcus Evans (1-0, 3.18) got both a blown save and the win. He pitched 2 innings, allowing 2 runs, only 1 earned on 2 hits. He also walked 1 and struck out 3.

Francisco Villegas pitched a shutout inning and allowed 1 hit to get his 1st save.

The Wood Ducks committed 4 errors. 2 throwing and 2 fielding errors.

Line-up

Julio Pablo Martinez went 0-5 with 3 strikeouts in his Wood Ducks Debut.

Leody Taveras went 2-4 with an RBI, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. He is hitting .373.

Diosbel Arias is heating up. He went 2-4 with a run and an RBI and 2 strikeouts. He is currently hitting .327 on the year.

Yonny Hernandez hit a sac-fly in the top of the 11th that scored Ryan Dorow. Hern?ndez ended up going 1-1 with a run, 2 RBI and a walk. He is batting an even .300.

Eric Jenkins and Ryan Dorow each had a hit.

Hickory Crawdads (10-3)

The Crawdads beat the Asheville Tourists 6-4.

The Hans Crouse (2-0, 1.26) got the start and the win for the Crawdads. He pitched 6.2 innings and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, including a home run. Crouse struck out 8 batters and didn’t give any free passes and threw 79 pitches, 58 for strikes.

Grant Anderson (2.84) earned his 2nd Hold of the year. He pitched 1.1 shutout innings throwing 12 pitches, 8 for strikes.

Line-up

Frainyer Chavez went 2-4 with 2 runs and has his average up to .219.

Curtis Terry is a guy that you need to pay attention to. He has been hot lately and today was no exception. Terry hit his 4th home run of the year, going 2-4 with 4 RBI. His average is at .313 with a 1.041 OPS.

Miguel Aparicio had a good game. At the plate he went 1-3 with 2 RBI, hitting his 1st home run of the year. He also had an outfield assist as well.
