Comets Wrap Up Record-Breaking Debut in the Lone Star Conference

RICHARDSON, TX — The UTD Comets wrapped up their 2026 season Sunday at home, putting a cap on a massive first year in the Lone Star Conference. In his first season as head coach, Travis Graves led the team to a 33-17 record, proving right away that UTD can hang in this conference.
They finished fourth in the Lone Star, and while they couldn't play in the postseason this year because of the transition, they played well enough to qualify. That’s a hell of a foundation to build on for 2027.

UTD Comets 2026 Team Breaking Records

The 2026 team played clean baseball and rewrote the school record books in the process:

Fielding Percentage: .972

Walks: 271

Hit by Pitch: 87

Sacrifice Flies: 32 (Tied record)
Senior Trent McCown was the standout at the plate this year, leading the team with 16 home runs and 59 RBIs.

Grit on the Mound

Sunday’s game didn't end with a win, but senior Tobin Oler went out like a warrior. He threw a complete game, finishing with 144 pitches. You just don't see guys stay out there like that these days. He gave everything he had in his final outing.

I was able to photograph four games this season, including the finale on Sunday. Getting to capture these seniors' final moments on the field was special. You could really see the grit in this group. They left something behind for the younger guys to build on, and I’m looking forward to being back out there next season to catch the journey.
