Owen White, the eighth ranked prospect in the Texas Rangers organization, is in line for a promotion to Double-A Frisco.
White was drafted by the Rangers in the 2nd round of the 2018 draft. He had the dreaded Tommy John surgery in May of 2019 and was sidelined until the 2021 season and his stock has steadily risen since.
White, 22, has been pretty impressive thus far this season for the High-A Hickory Crawdads. In his first eight games he had a 4.99 earned run average in 39.2 innings. He had issued 16 walks and struckout an impressive 51 batters.
Owen White’s June numbers
From June 4th to June 18th (3 starts) he’s got a 2-0 win-loss record with a 1.89 earned run average. Opposing batters haven’t had it easy against White as he’s only issued three walks. Another part of White’s dominance on the mound is due to his ability to miss bats. He’s struckout 30 in June while holding opposing batters to a line of .243/.273/.284/.557.
He pitched a season-high 7 innings and struckout a season-high 11 batters on June 11th against the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Rays). He only one run on two hits and two walks. At the time he won his 5th consecutive game.
White has a few pitches up his sleeve: Fast ball that has reached up to 98, curve around 75 mph, slider, and I believe he’s got a change as well.
Simply put, there is just nothing left for Owen White to prove in High-A.
If you’re a Rangers fan, be sure to keep an eye out for Owen White if you haven’t been! He’s currently the eighth ranked prospect on our Texas Rangers top prospects list.
Once promoted, he’ll join an already stacked rotation with fellow right-handers Jack Leiter and Zak Kent along with left-hander Cody Bradford in Frisco unless Leiter is also promoted soon. Be sure to check back on our website for updates on White’s progress!
