One of the Texas Rangers top prospects, Leody Taveras is heading to Double-A Frisco.
Taveras, 20, is the Rangers number 6 prospect according to the?MLB.com‘s top 30. It does depend on the list but he is consistently in the top 10 of pretty much every list out there.
Taveras is listed as a Centerfielder but has played every Outfield position.
DEWDs
For the Down East Wood Ducks, Taveras has a batting average of .294 on the year. His on-base percentage is .368 and his slugging percentage is .376 giving him an OPS of .745 on the year.
Keep in mind, this is while he has been switch-hitting .?
As far as power, the most home runs he has hit is 8 in 2017 with the Hickory Crawdads. He has hit 2 home runs this year. Through 4 Minor-league seasons, he has 13 errors in Center Field, none in LF, and 3 in RF. That’s pretty amazing if you ask me.
Taveras will probably have his biggest challenge to date here in Double-A as the pitchers get tougher. Defensively, he will be fine but don’t freak out if he struggles at the plate. He’ll make adjustments. Let’s just enjoy the fact that he is now here in Frisco and I can’t wait to see him in person.
We’ll get our first glimpse of him in action tonight:
