The Texas Rangers have pulled off their 1st trade with just a little under 15 hours to go until the trade deadline. The Rangers acquire Antoine Kelly, a left-handed pitching prospect and infielder Antonio Kelly in exchange for right-handed reliever Matt Bush.

Antoine Kelly is 22 years old and in 19 games in High-A this year has a 2-4 win-loss record with a 3.86 era. He was the Brewers 16th ranked prospect.

Reports are that his fastball sits mid 90s but has hit a high as 99 mph. He’s got a slider and change-up as well.

He’s logged 91 innings on the mound. His BB/SO ratio is 52bb/119so but opposing batters only hit for a .119 average against him. He’ll need to hone in on the walk issues but definitely has the stuff to miss bats as evidenced by the 119 strikeouts.

According to the beat reporters, Rangers president of baseball operations Jon Daniels said Kelly will go directly to Double-A Frisco.

Mark Mathias will go to Triple-A Round Rock.

Mathias has played in 22 games in majors, 16 in 2020 and 6 in 2022. He’s slashed a line of .231/.226/.346/.573 with 1 home run and 8 RBI.

Mathias, 28, has slashed a line of .318/.421/.518/.938 with 8 home runs and 30 RBI for the Triple-A Nashville Sounds just this season.

Love this trade for the Rangers!
