Rangers promote rising prospect Davalillo to Frisco

Evan Grant reported Monday that 22-year-old right-handed pitcher David Davalillo, the Texas Rangers' No. 29 prospect, is being promoted to Double-A Frisco.

Davalillo has been a rising star for the Spartanburgers dating back to last season, when he posted a 1.88 ERA in 110 1/3 innings pitched for Hickory and the DownEast Ducks, now known as the Spartanburgers. Although he was not initially on the Frisco roster to start the 2025 season, he was an early candidate for a Double-A promotion this year and has not disappointed.

So far this season, Davalillo has posted a 2.12 ERA in 11 games started, with 68 strikeouts and 11 walks. He is holding opponents to a career-low .170 batting average and has a .82 WHIP, showcasing his command and solidifying his reputation within the Rangers organization.

His arsenal features a fastball that consistently sits in the low 90s, often touching 93-94 mph and occasionally reaching 96 mph. He has effectively paired it with his splitter, generating numerous swing-and-misses and weak contact. Davalillo is also working to solidify his curveball to complement his high-spin sweeping slider, hoping to become a versatile starter and a valuable asset in any rotation.

His control has not lacked in 2025, making him an exciting prospect to watch progress through Frisco. He could even make his way to Round Rock if he continues to be dominant on the mound.

Davalillo will make his debut with Frisco on Friday in San Antonio. He will then make his home debut the following week against Tulsa, offering the home crowd a glimpse of the young right-hander. This promotion marks an exciting development for the Rangers organization.
