RoughRiders Cast a Spell on Wind Surge with 5-2 Win on Harry Potter Night
On a picture-perfect evening at Riders Field, with 8,800 fans rocking Harry Potter house scarves and 72-degree weather greeting the first pitch, the Frisco RoughRiders conjured up a 5-2 victory over the Wichita Wind Surge. Mitch Bratt’s dazzling mound work and a balanced offensive attack ensured the magic was all Frisco’s.
Mitch Bratt’s Mastery Continues
Mitch Bratt, the RoughRiders’ southpaw sensation, was pure wizardry again, earning his second win of 2025. Against the Wind Surge (Twins affiliate), he spun 5 innings, allowing just 1 run on 5 hits, with 0 walks, 5 strikeouts, and 77 pitches (57 strikes).
Bratt’s season numbers are downright enchanting: 25.2 innings, a 2.45 ERA, 4 walks, 29 strikeouts, and a 1.091 WHIP. Bratt’s gone at least 5 innings in each of his last four starts, never surrendering more than 2 runs in any outing.
Riders at the plate
The RoughRiders’ bats brought their own magic. Alejandro Osuna, Cooper Johnson, Josh Hatcher, and Luis Mieses each delivered 2 hits, keeping the Wind Surge’s defense scrambling. Aaron Zavala set the tone in the beginning, launching his second home run of the season to lead off for Frisco, a solo shot that sparked the scoring. The Riders piled on, scoring 4 runs in the first three innings.
Alejandro Osuna extended his hit-streak to 16-games.
Sebastian Walcott — the Texas Rangers top prospect — did not play.
Bullpen Locks It Down
RHP Gerardo Carrillo was the first out of the pen. He pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk and striking out two.
Gavin Collyer was lights-out in relief, tossing 2 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts and on the season he has a stingy 1.29 ERA. Skylar Hales pitched the 9th inning, giving up a HR in his inning of work.
On the other side, Wichita’s Ricky Castro took the loss, struggling through 3.2 innings while giving up 4 runs on 6 hits, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts.
The 8,800 fans in attendance at Riders Field is a season-high and it is also the highest attendance for a Texas League game this season.
What’s next for the RoughRiders
The Riders look for a series split against the Wind Surge at 4:05 p.m. on Sunday, May 4th. Frisco’s RHP Florencio Serrano Jr. (0-1, 10.38) faces Wichita LHP Christian MacLeod (0-0, 0.00).
