RoughRiders Top Drillers 3-1 Behind Drake’s Gem, Mieses’ Homer

The Frisco RoughRiders (40-30, 2-0 second half), haven't lost in the second half. They came away with a 3-1 victory against the Tulsa Drillers (26-45, 0-2) on Wednesday night at Riders Field. In the second game of a six-game series, LHP Kohl Drake delivered another masterful performance, and a first-inning outburst powered Frisco to a lead they wouldn’t give up.

Drake’s Dominance on the Mound

Kohl Drake (3-3, 2.74 ERA) continued his scorching run, tossing 6 scoreless innings against the Drillers. His stat line tells the story:

  • 6 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 SO, 79 pitches (51 strikes), 10 swinging misses.
  • Only 1 run allowed over his last 3 starts (18 IP) against RockHounds, Missions, and Drillers.
  • 0.50 ERA since June 11, ranking 3rd in Minor League Baseball among qualified pitchers.

Drake outdueled Tulsa’s LHP Brandon Neeck (2-3, 4.94 ERA).

First-Inning Fireworks

Frisco’s bats erupted in the bottom of the first, plating all three of their runs. INF Cam Cauley scored on an error by Tulsa C Griffin Lockwood-Powell, and OF Luis Mieses crushed a two-run homer—his 11th of the season, leading the RoughRiders and tying for 3rd in the Texas League. Mieses’ .472 slugging percentage, with 22 of his 49 hits for extra bases, ranks 2nd in the league, showcasing his power as a cornerstone of Frisco’s lineup.

Bullpen Locks It Down

Frisco’s relievers held firm despite a late Tulsa push:

  • LHP Avery Weems: 1 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 SO, 3 swinging misses
  • RHP Gavin Collyer (3.18 ERA): 1 IP, 1 SO, credited with 5th hold
  • RHP Skylar Hales: 1 IP, 0 R, 10 pitches (5 strikes), earned 5th save

Tulsa’s lone run came in the 8th when OF Kole Myers hit an infield single, narrowing the gap to 3-1, but Frisco’s bullpen slammed the door.
