RoughRiders VS Springfield Cardinals (St Louis Cardinals)

This is my 4th game to cover in person as a credentialed media member. I am definitely grateful and blessed with this opportunity.

On this Cinco De Mayo the RoughRiders celebrated Girl Power day and there was a nice crowd of 6,408 on hand on this perfect Sunday for baseball.

Right-handed pitcher, Pedro Payano got the start for the RoughRiders. Prior to this game he has an earned run average of 2.49 with a record of 3-0.

First pitch was at 4:06 PM CST

Starting Pitcher – Pedro Payano

The 1st inning was definitely the best for Payano. He struck out the first 2 batters. One swinging and the other looking. He got Dylan Carlson to ground out and got out of the 1st in 12 pitches.

Payano allowed a home run to Conner Capel, his 5th of the year, in between strikeouts in the 2nd.

The trouble came in the 5th for Payano. He allowed 4 runs to cross the plate and didn’t get out of the inning.

He pitched 4.2 innings and allowed 6 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. His earned run average is now 4.10.

Relief Pitching – James Jones, Locke St John, Emmanuel Clase

James Jones pitches 1.1 innings and struck out 2 bringing his earned run average to 4.97.

Locke St John is all business and did what he does best. He pitched 2 scoreless innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out 2. His earned run average is 0.59

Emmanuel Clase had en error on a throw. He pitched 1 inning and allowed 1 unearned run and one earned run. This guys throws the heat. Take a look at just some of his pitches showing the MPH and spin rate.

The Riders Offense: 6 runs on 11 hits.

Four Riders had multi hit games. Charles Leblanc and Andretty Cordero each had 3 hits.

Dallas native Preston Beck and Tony Sanchez each had 2 hits.

Also it was cool to see Ronald Guzm?n up close. He went 1-5 and is hitting and even .300 with the Riders.

Even with his throwing error, I give the player of the game honor to Charles Leblanc. He remained hot, going 3-4, with 2 runs and a sac-fly that just happened to tie the game. Plus, he leads the RoughRiders in batting average at .374 for the year.

There were 7 wild pitches in this game between both teams and the game took 3 hours and 14 minutes.

The RoughRiders vs Springfield Cardinals ended with a Riders loss by a final of 8-6. They move to 18-12 on the year.

Until next time, #LetsRide
