Texas Rangers Pitching Prospect Breyner Figuereo Touching 100 MPH
He hasn't appeared in a game yet this season, but Texas Rangers pitching prospect Breyner Figuereo is making headlines with his fastball. The left-hander was already turning heads by topping out around 97 mph earlier this spring, but according to recent reports, just a few months into his transition from the outfield to pitching, the lefty is now topping out between 98–100 mph.
If the last name sounds familiar to Rangers fans, it should, because Breyner is the younger brother of Rangers infield prospect Gleider Figuereo. The family ties go even deeper than that, as their father was also a pitcher in the Texas Rangers system from 2002 to 2004.
Breyner originally entered the professional ranks as an outfielder with the Chicago Cubs, but the bat just didn't come around in the Dominican Summer League.
During his 40-game stint with the DSL Cubs Blue, he posted a slash line of .192/.287/.272 with a .559 OPS. He managed one HR, 15 RBIs, 17 walks, and 35 strikeouts.
The Cubs officially released him on Feb. 3, and he signed with the Rangers on February 28, 2026.
Because Breyner was released by another club, his $100,000 signing bonus was entirely exempt from the 2026 international pool. The flame throwing southpaw celebrates his 18th birthday in just a few days on June 9th.
We'll be keeping an eye out as the DSL season progresses.
