Jonathan Ornelas, a Texas Rangers prospect, recently tied the RoughRiders single season hit record. After going 2-for-6 in the season finale against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, Ornelas tied the single-season hit record with 157 hits.
Ornelas, 22, who is originally from Glendale, Arizona, has been on an absolute-tear for the RoughRiders this season.
In 123 games, he batted a line of .299/.360/.425/.785 with 14 home runs and 64 RBI.
Not only is he having a great season statistically, but he’s also been a big part of the team’s success. The RoughRiders just clinched a spot in the post-season for the first time since 2014 and Ornelas has been a big reason why.
Ornelas played in Frisco for the entirety of the 2022 season and for a while led the Texas League in batting average.
