Wood Ducks Shut Out Lynchburg Hillcats for Second Straight Win

The Down East Wood Ducks (2-0) continued their winning ways on Saturday night, blanking the Lynchburg Hillcats (0-2) by a score of 1-0. It was the second straight victory for the Down East Wood Ducks to open the season.

Pitching Duel

Starting pitcher Kolton Curtis, a 19-year-old righty, got the nod for the Down East Wood Ducks. He tossed four solid innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out three on 56 pitches (32 strikes).

Taking over in the fifth inning was 22-year-old left-hander Josh Trentadue, who earned the win (1-0). Trentadue was dominant, scattering just one walk and striking out five batters over five innings. He threw 57 pitches (39 strikes) to secure the shutout.

Eighth-Inning Heroics

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the eighth inning when the Down East Wood Ducks manufactured the game’s only run. Tommy Specht led off the inning with a single, and with two outs, Echedry Vargas delivered a clutch RBI double that plated Specht for the go-ahead run.

Offensive Summary

The Down East Wood Ducks’ offense was limited to just four hits on the night. Specht and Vargas each singled and drove in a run, while JoJo Blackmon and Arturo Disla added the other two hits for Down East.

Looking Ahead

The Down East Wood Ducks will look to complete a three-game sweep of the Lynchburg Hillcats on Sunday afternoon with a noon first pitch.
