Cosmic Baseball Lights Up Frisco
Cosmic Baseball brought its glow-in-the-dark phenomenon to Riders Field for the first time, delivering high-voltage entertainment to a sold-out Frisco crowd.
Cosmic Baseball is similar to Banana Ball in some ways, but it offers a completely different vibe by taking the game into the dark. This is true glow-in-the-dark baseball where they use high-powered blacklights to make everything pop. The format consists of one hour of daylight play, followed by a 30-minute intermission to help get things ready, and then a final hour of "Cosmic" play in the dark.
It was history in the making this week as the Cosmic Takeover Tour officially touched down at Riders Field for the first time. I was lucky enough to cover the games on Thursday and Friday, witnessing firsthand how this neon spectacle transformed Riders Field.
The Frisco itinerary kicked off with a pregame block party at 4:30 p.m. It was a massive hit and free for all ticket holders, featuring player meet-and-greets, a live DJ, and early access to the latest Cosmic merchandise.
For fans wanting to get even closer to the action, the VIP experience offered a behind-the-scenes look at the tour. VIP ticket holders gained early entry into Riders Field at 4 p.m., allowing them to beat the crowds and meet the entire roster of players for autographs and photos before the game. The experience featured high-energy interactions like dance battles and other challenges against the players, plus first-look access to the merchandise stands. Each VIP also received a Cosmic gift bag filled with exclusive tour items. It is important to remember that the VIP pass is an add-on; it does not include a game ticket, so you must possess a standard game ticket to participate in these early festivities.
The competition between the Glow Mojis and the Chili Peppers (currently the only two teams in Cosmic Baseball) was electric. I’ve said this before when writing about Banana Ball, but it’s worth repeating here: Cosmic Baseball is not trying to replace baseball. It’s just adding more to it, like nonstop music and entertainment between innings and even at-bats. It really is a different, highly entertaining experience.
Everyone showed up early for these games, and it was obviously very popular with families. There was probably a lot of tired kids in school or homeschooled on Friday morning.
The Rules
The format introduces several unique rules designed to keep the energy high as the game transitions from the light into the "Cosmic" half:
- Swingers Only: If you bunt, you’re out.
- Figure It Out: If a pitcher is struggling, he has to figure it out on his own—no mound visits.
- Stay in the Box: Batters must keep the pace moving.
- Backwards Base Paths and 3 Minutes of Chaos: A fan helps decide which inning the players will run the bases backward, and fan-drafted participants become part of the game.
- Ball Four Fungo: When a batter walks, the ball is fungoed into play to keep the action live.
- Challenges: Each coach gets one challenge during the day game and one during the Cosmic play.

In the first matchup on Thursday, the Glow Mojis took a commanding 26–15 victory over the Chili Peppers. However, the Peppers bounced back in game two on Friday, narrowly winning a high-scoring 36–34 thriller.
Overall, this was a great experience that I think everyone should check out at least once. I haven't been able to confirm it officially yet, but I’ve heard whispers that Cosmic Baseball might be coming back to Riders Field next season. If you missed out this time around, be sure to enter the official ticket lottery as soon as it's announced—these games sell out fast!
