The Texas Rangers have promoted infielder Luke Hanson from the High-A Hub City Spartanburgers to the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders. In a corresponding move, shortstop Theo Hardy was sent to Triple-A Round Rock. The promotion comes as an early birthday present for Hanson, who turns 23 tomorrow.
Hanson (6-foot-2, 200 pounds, bats/throws right/right) was selected by the Rangers in the 15th round of the 2025 MLB Draft out of the University of Virginia. He's spent the majority of his time in the field at shortstop this season, with additional reps at second and third base.
2026 Season at Hub City
Across 107 games with Hub City this season, Hanson hit .266/.356/.424 (AVG/OBP/SLG) with an .780 OPS, 14 home runs, 60 RBI, and 14 stolen bases. He's shown a fairly even split against both sides, hitting .260/.363/.458 with an .821 OPS, 4 home runs, and 12 RBI against left-handed pitching, and .268/.353/.412 with a .766 OPS, 10 home runs, and 48 RBI against right-handers.
It marks a significant step forward from 2025, when Hanson split time between Low-A Hickory (16 games) and Hub City (8 games) in his first professional season, slashing .203/.325/.219 with 6 RBI across the two stops.
The combination of power and speed gives Frisco another dangerous bat as the RoughRiders push toward the postseason. Hanson joins a lineup already stocked with thump, including Sebastian Walcott (currently seeing time at DH), Rafe Perich, Max Wagner, and Arturo Disla, and adds another layer of firepower down the stretch
What's Next for Frisco
The RoughRiders have already clinched a postseason berth as first-half Texas League South Division champions. Frisco opens a new series on the road against the NW Arkansas Naturals tonight, and the club's final regular-season homestand begins next week, welcoming the Amarillo Sod Poodles to Riders Field from September 1–6.
