Today was Opening day for the Texas Rangers Triple-A affiliate, the Round Rock Express. Right-hander Cole Winn was tabbed to start on the mound. It was warm with a partly cloudy night and a light wind blowing. A sellout crowd showed up to welcome the 2023 season. What more can someone ask for except for a win?

Unfortunately, the Express lost their home opener by a final of 9-4.

Albuquerque took a 2-0 lead on a 2-run homer in the 1st. Cole settled down allowing the Isotopes to score 3 runs.

In the bottom of the 3rd, new comer Yoshi Tsutsugo hit a 2-run double followed by a bases loaded walk by Elier Hernandez scoring Sam Huff making the new score 3-2 GOOD GUYS!

Bottom 6: Express trail 6-3

J.P. Martinez singled in Elier Hernandez to close the score 6-4 that’s as close the Express got!

Well it just didn’t go the way starter Cole Winn (L,0-1) wanted he just went 3.2 innings 3 Hits (2 homers) 3 runs 3 walks 6 strikeouts throwing 80 pitches 45 strikes 35 balls. 80 pitches for 3+ innings is up there.

Cole was replaced by John King who went 2/3 of a inning giving up 3 runs on 5 hits.

There were 4 hitting stars tonight were they each had 2 hits a piece and accounted for the Express’ 8 total hits: newcomers Clint Frazier, Yoshi Tsutsugo along with Elier Hernandez and J.P. Martinez.

Game 2 of this 3 game series for the Express is tomorrow at 7:05 PM Central with left-hander Cody Bradford getting the start.
