Hickory Crawdads Toss No-Hitter in 1-0 Loss

Despite throwing a no-hitter, the Hickory Crawdads didn’t come away with the win, falling 1-0 in a game that showcased their pitching prowess but highlighted their offensive struggles. This rare feat kept fans on the edge of their seats, even if the scoreboard didn’t reflect the dominance.

Offensive Struggles Seal the Game

The Crawdads recorded 4 hits and 2 walks but failed to deliver the timely hit needed to score. In the top of the 9th, Maxton Martin ignited a spark with a leadoff single, but the rally fizzled after a groundout and a crushing 4-6-3 double play ended the game.

Pitching Perfection Shines

Mason Molina led the charge, throwing 6 perfect innings with 5 strikeouts on 75 total pitches. Michael Valverde followed, tossing a scoreless 7th inning with 1 strikeout.

Jake Jekielek pitched the 8th, but after hitting the first batter, he allowed 1 unearned run on a sacrifice fly, which proved to be the game’s only run. Jekielek finished with 1 inning and 1 hit-by-pitch.

Looking Ahead to Game 5

Despite the tough loss, the Crawdads’ no-hitter will go down in the record books. The Crawdads no-hitter loss is the first since the Tulsa Drillers in April ’19 with 8 innings and a loss.

They’ll aim to bounce back in Game 5 of this 6-game series, with RHP Aneudis Mejia (0-0, 9.00) starting for the Crawdads.

First pitch set for 5:05 PM.
