The Texas Rangers announced their minor league award winners for May on Monday morning. The month featured standout performances across the farm system, resulting in several impressive stat lines and promotions for prospects who have caught the attention of the organization.
Starting Pitcher of the Month: Evan Siary, Hickory Crawdads
Siary, a 22-year-old eighth-rounder, put together an impressive stat sheet in May. Making five starts for Single-A Hickory, Siary logged 26 2/3 innings and allowed just seven runs, good for a 2.36 ERA. He ranked among the top 10 qualified Carolina League pitchers for the month in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.83), ERA (2.36), and WHIP (1.16).
Defender of the Month: Yolfran Castillo, Hickory Crawdads
The 19-year-old Castillo was nearly perfect in the field, converting 95 of 96 total chances in May. He appeared in 22 games at shortstop and three at third base, at one point recording 20 consecutive errorless games. An undrafted signee, Castillo has paired his defensive prowess with a strong year at the plate, currently slashing .304 with an .810 OPS. He also improved his speed on the basepaths in May, swiping 15 bases in 16 attempts. Castillo remains a name to monitor as he continues to progress through the system.
Reliever of the Month: Wilian Bormie, Frisco RoughRiders
Bormie, 25, made eight relief appearances for Double-A Frisco in May. The right-hander posted a 2.70 ERA while holding opponents to a .200 batting average. Bormie displayed excellent command, striking out 14 batters while walking only three. He has come into his own this season, owning a 1.78 ERA across 25 1/3 innings and touching 103 mph on the radar gun. Now in his fifth season with the organization, the Dominican Republic native recently earned a promotion to Triple-A and could be a candidate for a major league call-up to Arlington in the near future.
Player of the Month: Rafe Perich, Hub City SpartanBurgers
A seventh-round pick in 2024, Perich put up historic numbers in May. The switch-hitter slashed .327 with a 1.141 OPS across 26 games. He launched 11 home runs and drove in 32 runs while maintaining disciplined plate appearances, recording 16 walks against 17 strikeouts. His 70 total bases were the most by a Rangers minor leaguer in a single month since Yohel Pozo recorded 79 in July 2021. Perich was promoted to Double-A Frisco on May 29, where he has maintained a .960 OPS. Five of his first eight hits with the RoughRiders have gone for extra bases, including home runs in both games of a doubleheader on June 7.
