Rangers Prospect Malcolm Moore Named South Atlantic League Player of the Week After Absurd Series
Texas Rangers catching prospect Malcolm Moore was named South Atlantic League Player of the Week.
The Texas Rangers and their fans are starting to see exactly what they hoped for from their top catching prospect. He's been on an absolute tear over his last 17 games but his last 5 games earned him Player of the Week honors. Catcher Malcolm Moore has been named as the South Atlantic League (SAL) Player of the Week for May 11-17.
The 22-year-old catcher put together a historic stretch of baseball at Asheville Tourists (Astros) last week, leading the league in all four slash categories and extra-base hits (8).
An Unstoppable Week in Asheville
In 5 games at Asheville, he produced 2+ hits and 1+ RBI in all 5 games, compiling an otherworldly slash line:
Batting Average / OBP / SLG / OPS: .520 / .571 / 1.160 / 1.731
Hits: 13-for-25
Extra-Base Hits: 4 Home Runs, 4 Doubles (8 total XBH)
Runs Batted In: 10 RBI
Moore has hit a home run in 3 consecutive games. This spectacular run included a clutch 2-run shot as part of a career-high 4-hit game on Sunday at Asheville.
The Streaks
Taking a look at his last 9 games altogether, Moore is putting up truly absurd numbers:
Hit Streak: 9 games
Multi-Hit Streak: 7 straight games (2+ hits in each)
Power Surge: 4 HRs in his last 5 games
The Big Picture: 2026 Season Stats
Moore’s recent tear has completely rewritten his season-long stat line. Through 28 games this year, he is proving to be one of the most balanced, impactful catchers in the minor leagues on both sides of the ball.
Offensive Rankings
On the season, Moore is batting .318/.409/.573/.982 with 6 HR, 10 2B, and 21 RBI. His performance places him right near the top of the leaderboards, ranking among all SAL hitters in:
Batting Average: .318 (T-6th)
Doubles: 10 (T-4th)
Zooming out slightly further, over his last 17 games, Moore has slashed an elite .426/.513/.765/1.277 with 5 HR and 15 RBI.
Elite Defensive Showcase
While his bat is making headlines, his defensive prowess behind the plate is equally stunning. Moore has caught 18 of 56 (32.1%) baserunners attempting to steal. This marks the most caught stealing (CS) by any SAL catcher in the 2026 season.
A Bright Future in the Rangers System
Originally selected by Texas with the 30th overall pick of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Stanford, Moore has carried high expectations since turning pro. He currently ranks as the 18th-best prospect in the Rangers organization per MLB Pipeline.
With his defensive instincts and a left-handed bat that is officially on fire, Moore is cementing himself as the future anchor of the Texas backstop. If I listen closely, I can hear Frisco calling his name.
