As the World Series Champions Texas Rangers begin their season, here are some things to know before it starts.
The Texas Rangers are getting prepared to start the first ever title defense in franchise history. Bruce Bochy at the helm of the Club once again, may we see a repeat of a great, stressful and emotional season again?
The season is just a week away and Nathaniel Lowe and Josh Jung are 2 players to watch for as injury has struck them. Josh Jung suffered a calf injury at the beginning of spring training and his ability to play in the opener is at question.
The Slugging First baseman Nathaniel Lowe suffered an oblique injury and is expected to miss some time including the first week of the regular season. No worries, there is help! The Texas Rangers farm system is strong, thanks to former GM Jon Daniels and now GM Chris Young, the rangers are ready to fill the big roles as expected. Ezequiel Duran is expected to fill Josh Jungs role at third if he misses time. At first base we will most likely see a split role from newly acquired free agent Jared Walsh and Rangers prospect Justin Foscue.
There is one stand out that everyone is expecting to make the Rangers opening day roster and that stand out is , Former 4th overall pick Wyatt Langford. Langford has had an eye gazing camp, he has an amazing 6 homers with 1 grand slam and that’s 3rd in the league, and is leading the league in RBIs this spring with 19 and an outstanding league leading slugging and OPS percentage. With .796 SLG and a 1.242 OPS Langford is expected to make his Big league debut on Thursday March 28 , in Arlington against the Chicago Cubs.
Other injuries to watch, Corey Seager did have hernia surgery this offseason and is questionable to play in the upcoming season opener. According to Sports illustrated, Seager is on track to play. Jacob DeGrom and Max Scherzer aren’t expected to join the team till after the All-Star break, but Scherzer could be on track for an earlier return.
The Rangers have tough road ahead defending their title but it will come with help from new faces, a 2 time World Series MVP, an Ironman who plays 162 games, a ALCS MVP slugger, a relentless of young talent, and a Future Hall of Fame Manager all at the front of the line. Get ready for 2023 World Series Champions to take the diamond once again.
