The electric arm is officially getting his shot in Arlington. Prior to today’s series finale against the Houston Astros at Globe Life Field, the Texas Rangers announced they have recalled right-handed reliever Emiliano Teodo from Triple-A Round Rock.
The 25-year-old will wear #56 on the active roster as he looks to make his highly anticipated Major League debut.
A Shift to the Bullpen
Teodo last started a game during the 2024 season, and since moving to a full-time relief role, he has developed into a nice weapon out of the bullpen. Armed with an explosive fastball that routinely touches the upper 90s and hits the 100s on a regular basis, the righty has been missing bats.
Through 35 relief appearances for the Round Rock Express this season, Teodo has posted a 3.76 ERA across 40.2 innings of work. While command has at times been a issue—evident by his 35 walks—when he's on, he's really on. He has 52 strikeouts and five saves.
His durability out of the bullpen were on full display in late May when he proved he could handle a heavy workload, locking down back-to-back appearances for the first time in his career on May 29th and 30th for the Express.
Six Seasons in the Making
Ranked as the Rangers' No. 17 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Teodo's call-up represents the culmination of a six-year journey through player development. The Rangers originally signed him to a minor league contract as an international free agent back on January 28, 2020.
Since beginning his professional career, Teodo has been one of the most prolific strikeout artists in the organization. He enters the big leagues carrying a career 12.1 strikeouts-per-nine-innings mark across five minor league levels.
Across his minor league career, he has a 3.42 ERA in 347.1 innings with 217 walks and 447 strikeouts.
With the Rangers bullpen needing a fresh, high-strikeout arm for the middle innings, Teodo will get his first chance to test his elite stuff against Major League hitters.
Teodo didn't appear in today's game and the Rangers now have four days off so he might not see his MLB debut before being optioned back to Round Rock. We shall see.
Either way, it is a dream come true for your name to be added into a Major League roster. Congratulations, Emiliano!
