Welcome to our new weekly series highlighting standout players in the Dominican Summer League. Every week, we will dive into the DSL system to track player development, stats, and milestones. To kick off the series, I am going to focus on 21-year-old infielder Yeisy Celesten, who is putting up solid numbers for the DSL Rangers Red.
Celesten is listed at 5-11 and 160 lb. He signed with the Texas Rangers as an international free agent on January 15, 2024. Through 21 games on the season, the left-handed hitter has been highly productive at the plate, combining frequent contact with strong plate discipline.
The Numbers
At the plate, Celesten is currently slashing .364/.533/.636 with a 1.169 OPS. His offense has driven the lineup, highlighted by 4 home runs and 24 RBIs. That RBI count marks a brand new single-season career high for Celesten.
A key driver of his success is his strike zone management. Celesten has drawn 27 walks while striking out just 17 times. He is currently one walk away from establishing a new single-season career high in free passes, with every subsequent walk rewriting his personal record. On top of that, he needs just one more home run to match his previous career high of 5 HRs in a single season.
Over his career, Celesten has played second base, first base, and third base. After spending his first season with DSL Rangers Blue, he has spent the last two seasons with DSL Rangers Red.
This summer, he has focused solely on the corners—playing only first and third base, with most of his playing time coming at first.
Defensively, his metrics this season are as follows:
At First Base: 4 errors in 132 chances, good for a .970 fielding percentage.
At Third Base: A 1.000 fielding percentage across 5 chances.
Celesten's current stretch has kept his lifetime minor league metrics steady over his time in the system.
Current Season Line (21 G)
.364/.533/.636/1.169 / 4 HR / 24 RBI / 27 BB / 17 SO
Lifetime Career Slash Line
.301/.460/.493/.953 / 9 HR / 53 RBI / 77 BB / 66 strikeouts
With his walk numbers on the verge of setting new personal milestones, Celesten is establishing himself as one of the steady bats in the complex leagues. We will continue to track his development on the corners and his plate discipline as the DSL season moves forward.
Check back next week for our next player spotlight as we continue to track the organization's international and domestic complex rosters.
