Texas Rangers fire Offensive Coordinator Donnie Ecker
The Texas Rangers made the decision to fire Offensive Coordinator Donnie Ecker. He has been with the team since 2021 and was a big part of their World Series run. This comes to due their inability to hit as many of the Rangers top hitters have failed to meet expectations. This struggles go back to last year as the Rangers unperformed and the bats couldn’t get going.
The team ranks 25th in batting average with .228, they are in 27th in OPS with .643, they are 29th in runs scored with 113, and they are 29th in RBIs with 111. They do better with the home run ball as they rank 19th with 31 home runs. They have also drawn the second least walks in the league.
The Rangers have been more aggressive this year, which lead to starters going deep into games against them and like mentioned before not drawing walks. Notable starters who have underperformed this year have been Joc Pederson, Adolis Gracia, Marcus Semien, and Jake Burger who got sent down to Triple A.
They are 3-7 in their last ten games after a 8-1 win over the Seattle Mariners to avoid the sweep. They are currently sitting in fourth in the AL West and are four games out of the division lead.
The team is hoping that this move will help the bats improve and give the team the spark that they have been missing. They have Monday off and will start a series against the Boston Red Sox on May 6. Nathan Eovaldi will get the start against his former team.
