When will Evan Carter return?
It seems like Evan Carter could be back in Arlington as soon as today.
Carter has spent his season in Triple A with the Round Rock Express as he has tried to get comfortable with his back condition, which cost him most of last year.
Carter struggled in Spring Training and in the beginning of the minor league season. Up to April 13, Carter’s batting average sat at just .138. However, that is when he picked it. His batting average has picked up to .221, in this span he is batting .270 (13-48). He has also reached base in every game this season.
He picked up his first hit against a left handed pitcher recently, which hopefully is a sign of things to come. He has struggled with lefties in his career, but he does remain as a good hitter against righties. He is 1 for 14 against lefties this year, which is a batting average of 0.71.
So when Carter does return, he will likely platoon with outfielder Kevin Pillar. The reason that it seems like Carter will be up soon is due to Leody Taveras being placed on waviers after the Rangers win against the Mariners on May 4. Taveras only started four of the last ten games and people could see the writing on the wall.
Taveras wasn’t playing too well as he hit .241 with one home run and eight RBIs. He wasn’t doing too great in the field either as he had two errors and has times where he would misread the ball, which led to a hit or extra base for the other team.
Carter will likely come up to replace Taveras and it seems like it would happen today as the Rangers have the day off and the chance to make the move. Most of the Rangers hitters have struggled, so hopefully Carter is the shot in the arm that they need to get back on track like he was when the team won the World Series in 2023.
