After Tearing Up the ACL, Jay McQueen Promoted to Hickory Crawdads

Texas Rangers outfield prospect Jay McQueen is being promoted from the ACL Rangers to the Low-A Hickory Crawdads. The 19-year-old outfielder was drafted by Texas in the 20th round of the 2025 MLB Draft out of Brandon High School in Mississippi, where he hit .435 with five home runs during his senior year. Standing 6'2" and 185 lbs, he is a right-handed batter who throws left-handed.

McQueen earned the promotion after a dominant stint in the Arizona Complex League, where he slashed .361/.465/.536 with a 1.001 OPS, four home runs, 24 RBIs, and seven stolen bases over 48 games. The young outfielder drew 28 walks and recorded exit velocities as high as 106.7 mph when Statcast data was available. The highlight of the season came on May 19 against the ACL Dodgers, when he went 4-for-5 with 5 RBIs — his career-high.

He wrapped up his time in Arizona by recording two hits in each of his final two games, including a home run in one of those contests. With nothing left to prove at the complex level, McQueen now heads to the Carolina League to make his full-season professional debut. There will be an adjustment period as he faces more advanced pitching, but the tools are there. Watch out, Carolina League.
