Rangers Pitching Prospects David Davalillo and Dalton Pence Earn Promotions
Top pitching prospects David Davalillo and Dalton Pence have been promoted.
There is more movement in the Texas Rangers' farm system this week as two of the organization’s top pitching prospects head to new levels. David Davalillo has been promoted to Triple-A Round Rock, while Dalton Pence is making the jump to Double-A Frisco.
David Davalillo Reaches the Cusp of the Big Leagues
David Davalillo, currently the Rangers' No. 7 prospect, has officially been moved from Frisco to Triple-A Round Rock. David Davalillo is already on the Texas Rangers 40-man roster and had recently been on the Rangers' taxi squad, so he's already been close to making his MLB Debut. That should still happen at some point this season.
Davalillo leaves Frisco after another impressive stretch of production. This season, he posted a 3.86 ERA across 23.1 innings, recording 36 strikeouts and only 8 walks. His career totals in Frisco are equally dominant, with a 3.06 ERA over 79.1 innings and 94 strikeouts against 25 walks across two seasons.
Dalton Pence Joins the Texas League
Joining the pitching staff in Frisco is left-hander Dalton Pence, the Rangers' No. 12 prospect. The 2024 11th-round pick out of the University of North Carolina has earned the promotion after dismantling hitters at the High-A level.
During his time with the Hub City Spartanburgers this season, Pence was a model of efficiency. He pitched 24.1 innings, maintaining a 2.59 ERA and a stifling 0.945 WHIP. I think Dalton's command is most impressive to me; he issued only 5 walks while racking up 30 strikeouts.
With Davalillo now just one step from Arlington and Pence ready to test his stuff against Double-A hitting, the Rangers' pitching depth on the farm continues to trend in the right direction.
