The Texas Rangers are sending top prospect Sebastian Walcott back to the Arizona Fall League. The 20-year-old infielder was added to the Surprise Saguaros roster Monday and now headlines the list of Rangers prospects heading to Arizona this fall.
Walcott is the Rangers' No. 1 prospect and ranks No. 9 overall according to MLB Pipeline. His addition makes him the highest-ranked player in the Fall League this year, ahead of Dodgers outfielder Eduardo Quintero (MLB No. 18).
The Arizona Fall League season begins Oct. 3. Jeff Wilson reported on X that Walcott will play two to three times a week for Surprise.
A Season Shortened by Surgery
Walcott's 2026 season was limited to 187 plate appearances. In February, the Rangers announced he had a UCL tear in his right elbow that could cost him most or all of the season. He underwent an internal brace procedure rather than a full Tommy John surgery, which shortened his recovery timeline.
The elbow issue first surfaced last fall. Walcott appeared in one game in the 2025 Arizona Fall League before he was shut down.
He returned to game action July 14 with the ACL Rangers and was activated by Double-A Frisco on July 17. He went back on the injured list Aug. 2 after being struck in the head by a pickoff throw and was activated again Aug. 12.
Production When Healthy
Walcott played 41 regular-season games across three levels.
In two rehab games with the ACL Rangers, he slashed .500/.571/1.167 with a 1.738 OPS, a home run, a walk and a stolen base.
Back with Frisco, Walcott played 37 games and slashed .322/.398/.586 with a .983 OPS. He hit nine home runs, drove in 20 runs, drew 17 walks and went 11-for-11 in stolen base attempts. At one point, he homered in four consecutive games.
After serving as the designated hitter, Walcott played shortstop in Frisco's regular-season finale and throughout the Texas League South Division Series. In three playoff games, he slashed .364/.533/.636 with a 1.170 OPS, a home run and four walks in 15 plate appearances. The home run was his first hit in the playoffs. He stole four bases and was caught once.
Once Frisco was eliminated, Walcott was promoted to Triple-A Round Rock, where he played two games. He hit .250/.333/.250 with a .583 OPS, a walk and a stolen base. He served as the DH in his Round Rock debut and played shortstop in his second game.
Why Arizona Makes Sense
I'm not surprised the Rangers added Walcott to the AFL roster. I think this is a perfect way for him to get additional work in games to make up for lost time, even though he didn't miss a beat when he came back in July.
