The Rangers System is Moving: Two of the Systems Best Hitters Just Got Promoted
There has been additional movement on the Texas Rangers farm system today. Power-hitting infielder Rafe Perich has jumped to Double-A Frisco, while the scorching-hot John Taylor is moving up to Triple-A Round Rock.
Both players have been a force at the plate over these first two months of the season so these promotions aren't much of a surprise.
Rafe Perich Brings the Thunder to Frisco
After completely dismantling High-A pitching, Rafe Perich is officially bringing his system-leading power to the Texas League. Perich leaves the Hub City Spartanburgers as the undisputed home run king of the Rangers farm system (11), leaving a trail of crushed baseballs in his wake.
Perich's numbers with Hub City speak to a hitter who really didn't have much more to prove at the High-A level:
- AVG: .303
- OBP: .394
- SLG: .606
- OPS: 1.000
- Home Runs: 11
- RBIs: 34
Leaving town with an even 1.000 OPS and double-digit blasts, Perich’s ability to drive the ball in the air consistently makes him a massive addition to the middle of the RoughRiders' batting order. Riders Field just got a serious injection of left-handed thud.
Blink and You Missed It: John Taylor Promoted to Round Rock
If you took your eyes off the Frisco box scores for even a weekend, you might have missed John Taylor’s spectacular Double-A tenure. In what feels like the blink of an eye, the versatile infielder has been promoted up to Triple-A Round Rock.
Taylor’s trajectory remains one of the most remarkable stories in the organization. Signed out of independent baseball last summer, he has done nothing but post elite offensive numbers at every single stop. He leaves the RoughRiders after putting together a masterclass in hitting:
- AVG: .322
- OBP: .454
- SLG: .517
- OPS: .971
- Home Runs: 6
- RBIs: 29
Taylor combines plate discipline and an incredibly high contact rate with emerging game power. His ability to draw walks, limit strikeouts, and play multiple positions makes him an invaluable asset. By moving to the Pacific Coast League, Taylor places himself just one call away from Arlington
For fans following the pipeline, the upper minors just got a little more explosive.
