MLB Pipeline released it’s first mock draft for 2024. I’m always interested to see who they have our Texas Rangers selecting. They have the Rangers selecting Kevin Bazzell out of Texas Tech with the 30th pick. They have him listed as catcher though he did start 61 games at third for Texas Tech.

A Little More About Kevin Bazzell

Bazzell, 20, was born in Dallas Texas and attended high school at Rockwall-Heath High School.

The right-handed hitter started in all 63 games for the Red Raiders while slashing a line of .348/.453/.572/1.025 with 10 home runs and 62 RBI in 2023. I am always impressed when I see batters with more walks than strikeouts and that is the case here with Bazzell at 45/32. He hit 24 doubles and one triple. His 87 hits led the Red Raiders as well as his 24 doubles.

His 24 doubles also tied the record for most doubles in a single season, joining Tony Arnerich, Keith Ginter, Jason Totman and Clint Bryant who all hold the Red Raiders record according to their website.

The 2024 MLB draft will take place in July in Arlington, Texas, so these mock drafts will surely change.
