If you don't know Jean Ballesteros yet, you might want to start paying attention. The right-hander, nicknamed "Bull," has quietly built a solid debut season out of the bullpen for DSL Rangers Blue, pairing a fastball that tops out around 92 mph with swing-and-miss stuff that has given hitters trouble from both sides of the plate.
Through 15 appearances, Ballesteros holds a 4-2 record with a 3.90 ERA across 27.2 innings pitched, with 24 strikeouts and 14 walks against 129 batters faced. That ERA is one of the better marks among pitchers in the Rangers DSL system. He's also picked up two saves and a hold. Advanced numbers back up the surface stats reasonably well, with a 3.57 FIP alongside the ERA.

Ballesteros has struck out 18.6% of batters faced this season against a 10.9% walk rate, producing a 7.8% K-BB%. He's thrown strikes at a 60.8% clip, and his swinging-strike rate sits at 14.3%, according to MiLB Tracker.
Splits show a pitcher who has missed bats against hitters from both sides. Against left-handed batters, Ballesteros has allowed a .275/.403/.392 line for a .795 OPS, with a 49.3% whiff rate, meaning hitters are missing on nearly half of their swings against him from that side. Against right-handed batters, he's allowed a .283/.322/.377 line for a .699 OPS, with a 34.3% whiff rate.
The gap between his on-base numbers against lefties and righties stands out. Despite a similar batting average allowed, his OBP against left-handed hitters is over 80 points higher than against right-handed hitters, a difference driven largely by walks. He's been more willing, or able, to attack right-handed hitters in the zone, while left-handed hitters have drawn more free passes.
