Frisco RoughRiders reliever Wilian Bormie is moving one step closer to the big leagues. According to a report from Francys Romero, the high-velocity right-hander is being promoted from Double-A Frisco to Triple-A Round Rock.
It is a well-deserved promotion for Bormie, who has been absolutely dominant out of the RoughRiders bullpen this season. In 25.1 innings at the Double-A level, the 25-year-old posted a perfect 6-0 record with a stellar 1.78ERA. His command and swing-and-miss stuff have been on full display, racking up 33 strikeouts against 9 walks while maintaining an incredible 0.95 WHIP.
The Texas Rangers originally signed Bormie as an international free agent on December 28, 2019 out of Barahona, Dominican Republic. Over his minor league career, he has logged 208.0 innings, pitching his way to a 3.29 ERA while racking up 269 strikeouts. He's got three straight seasons with a sub 4.00 ERA.
Bormie's statistical dominance is backed by some of the most electric raw tools in the Rangers organization. The right-hander features true triple-digit heat, consistently sitting at 100 mph and touching as high as 103 mph on the radar gun.
With his move to the Pacific Coast League, Bormie puts himself on the doorstep of Arlington. If his high-leverage dominance translates to the Triple-A level, the hard-throwing righty could very well find himself making his MLB debut later this season.
Congratulations to Wilian on a well-earned promotion! Be sure to follow along on his journey as he takes this massive step closer to the majors.
