MLB Pipeline released its updated Top 100 Prospects today. Three Rangers farmhands made the cut: shortstop Sebastian Walcott, right-hander Caden Scarborough, and newly drafted left-hander Gio Rojas.
Sebastian Walcott, SS/3B / No. 9
Walcott checked in at No. 9 overall. The 20-year-old underwent internal brace surgery on his right elbow in February and didn't make his 2026 season debut until mid-July which seemed a little earlier than expected.
The layoff hasn't shown up in his production. Since returning, Walcott has hit .343 / .397 / .657 / 1.054 with four home runs, 21 runs scored, 10 RBI, and four stolen bases. He's been used exclusively as a designated hitter so far as he continues to build his arm back up, with a return to shortstop coming next season.
Walcott slashed .255/.355/.386 with 13 home runs and 32 stolen bases over 124 games at Frisco last year before the injury, and he remains the highest-ranked prospect in the Rangers system.
Caden Scarborough, RHP / No. 77
Scarborough checked in at No. 77 in the updated rankings. He's held a spot on Pipeline's Top 100 since late March, when he replaced Samuel Basallo on the list, and has stayed there despite a delayed start to spring training and the regular season.
Since returning, the 21-year-old has been one of the more dominant arms in the system. On the year, he's posted a 3.50 ERA and 1.031 WHIP over 43 2/3 innings, with 50 strikeouts against 15 walks. He was selected to the MLB All-Star Futures Game, where he worked a scoreless inning and struck out Dodgers prospect Josue De Paula.
Scarborough was Texas's sixth-round pick in 2023 and has emerged as the club's top pitching prospect, working with a fastball that sits in the mid-90s and touches 97-98 mph, paired with a sharp mid-80s slider.
Gio Rojas, LHP / No. 97
Rojas is the freshest face of the three. Texas took him with the No. 16 overall pick out of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in July, and he debuts on the Top 100 at No. 97 after signing with the club on July 21st.
The 19-year-old was regarded as the best high school arm and the best left-handed pitcher in this year's Draft class, going 11-1 with a 0.58 ERA and 124 strikeouts against 17 walks over 72 2/3 innings as a senior. He sits in the mid-90s with his fastball, has touched 98 mph, and pairs it with a quality slider. Rojas has yet to make his professional debut.
The bigger picture
Three prospects on an industry Top 100 is a nice showing for a system that's taken real hits over the past two trade deadlines, dealing away a dozen-plus prospects since 2025 in moves for players like Merrill Kelly and MacKenzie Gore. Walcott remains the system's centerpiece and one of the sport's most talented young shortstops, while Scarborough gives Texas a top-of-the-line arm. Rojas, fresh off the board, adds another quality arm to the system as well.
