Minor Leaguers to Get Some Pay
The MLB announced today that it will be paying Minor Leaguers an allowance until at least April 8. The allowances, which range between $100 and $400 a week, will be paid in one lump sum. The MLB is currently planning a way to pay these players during the regular season postponement. Reds General Manager Nick Krall stated, "We were excited to be able to help these kids. A Sad Day for Baseball: Season Delayed Further
Today was a sad day for baseball as MLB announced it would follow the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendation of restricting gatherings of 50 or more for the next eight weeks and further delay the start of the season. With opening day originally scheduled for March 26, this will extend the two week delay they had announced last Thursday. Darwin Barney named new Nashville Sounds Manager
Today the Texas Rangers named Darwin Barney the new manager of their AA Nashville Sounds squad. Barney, is a 34 year old Oregon native. He spent eight years in the majors with the Cubs, Dodgers and Blue Jays, retiring in 2017. He batted .246 during his career and was seventh in voting for Rookie of the year in 2011. Double-A player Michael De Leon, and Triple-A player Brady Feigl were both lost to the Rule 5 MiLB draft today. De Leon was selected by Cincinnati. Last season the 22-year-old infielder batted .260 in 477 at-bats with the Frisco RoughRiders. He had an SLG of .314 and an OPS of .623.
