The Frisco RoughRiders have tabbed top pitching prospect Jack Leiter to start game two of the Texas League Championship against the Wichita Wind Surge.

If the RoughRiders win, they take home the Texas League Championship for the first time since 2004. If they lose, game three of the best-of-three series will be tomorrow night.

Leiter, 22, posted a 3-10 win-loss record with a 5.54 ERA and 1.554 WHIP in 23 games/22 starts for the RoughRiders.

He’ll be facing off against Brent Headrick, who made 8 starts for the Wind Surge after being promoted from High-A. He posted a 2-3 win-loss record with a 4.81 ERA for Wichita in those starts.

Leiter faced the Wichita Wind Surge, the Minnesota Twins double-a affiliate twice this season (once at Riders Field and once at Riverfront Stadium) and recorded some of his better stats. His totals between the two starts were probably the best of any team he faced multiple times this season. He had a 1-1 win-loss record with a 1.64 earned run average in 11 innings, 10 hits, 6 walks and 16 strikeouts.

Leiter has shown flashes of brilliance and shown where he can’t find the zone and loses batters. We’ve seen it game after game. The key for Leiter tonight will be limiting free passes. If he can do that, he should give the RoughRiders a good chance to take home the Texas League Championship tonight.

No matter the outcome of the game, this will be Jack Leiter’s last start of the season and you know he wants to end it on a high-note.

This should be a great matchup and it’s sure to be a thrilling game for fans of both teams.
