The Frisco RoughRiders are in pursuit of the Texas League Championship, a title they haven't captured since 2022. Standing between them and a return trip to the Championship Series are the Amarillo Sod Poodles. Frisco won the first half of the season at 39-29.
Frisco is now a game closer to that goal after taking Game One in Amarillo, 8-7 in 10 innings. It was an entertaining night at HODGETOWN, but truth be told, this game should've never gone to extras.
Curry Gets the Ball for Game One
RHP Aidan Curry was tabbed to start Game One for the RoughRiders. Curry checks in at No. 19 on our updated 2026 Texas Rangers Top 30 Prospects list. Sebastian Walcott played shortstop again.
Games at HODGETOWN can go either way — anyone can homer at any time, and the RoughRiders typically put up a ton of runs there. Curry needed just 8 pitches to work through the first, which included two weak ground outs toward first base.
Through four innings, Curry sat at 62/43 strikes with a line of 4.0 IP / 2 R / 3 H / 4 SO / 5 whiffs. That ended up being his final line for the night — he also hit a batter. I would've liked to see him go at least another inning.
Bullpen Usage
Frisco used seven pitchers in the win: Curry, Austin Roberts, Leandro Lopez, Bryan Magdaleno, Kai Wynyard, Trentadue and Brand.
RHP Austin Roberts came in for Curry in the fifth. His final line: 1.2 IP / 1 R / 2 H / 1 BB / 3 SO / 31/21 strikes.
Leandro Lopez followed and went 0.1 IP with a strikeout on 5/3 strikes in that stretch. His final line: 1.1 IP / 0 R / 2 BB / 1 SO / 29/16 strikes.
LHP Bryan Magdaleno was brought in to replace Lopez in the bottom of the 8th. His final line: 0.2 IP / 2 R (0 ER) / 1 H / 2 BB / 1 WP / 1 SO / 26/15 strikes.
Kai Wynyard followed with 0.2 IP / 1 R / 0 H / 1 BB / 1 SO on 9/4 strikes.
Trentadue went 0.1 IP / 0 R / 1 H / 2 BB / 1 SO on 18/7 strikes.
Brand, who carried a 5.34 ERA on the season, won this battle to close it out: 1.1 IP / 0 R / 1 BB / 1 SO on 15/11 strikes.
RoughRiders score 3 in the Top of the 8th
Gleider Figuereo got the RoughRiders on the board with a home run in the top of the 2nd, and in that same inning Paxton Kling hit a two-run shot putting the Riders out front 3-0 at the time.
Frisco was cooking in the top of the 8th. Gleider Figuereo singled and Malcolm Moore was hit by pitch, putting runners on first and second with Paxton Kling up to bat. Kling showed bunt but was hit by pitch in the knee to load the bases. Max Wagner hit into a 5-2 force out.
Marcus Lee Sang followed with a two-run double. The Sod Poodles intentionally walked Sebastian Walcott to get to lefty-hitting Dylan Dreiling, who uncharacteristically struck out for the fourth time in the game.
Rafe Perich singled to score Max Wagner. Sebastian Walcott advanced from second to third, but Marcus Lee Sang had been held up — heads-up baserunning by both Walcott and Sang, and they ended up safe, with Sang at third and Walcott at second, as Sang headed there when Walcott appeared like he was going to be caught in a rundown.
Arturo Disla flied out to end the inning.
Sod Poodles Rally, Force Extras
Amarillo scored three runs in the bottom of the 8th to pull within a run, then tied the game at 7-7 in the 9th to send it to extras.
Frisco was gifted a run in the top of the 10th with a wild pitch by Carlos Rey, allowing Wagner to come home.
By the Numbers
Frisco finished with 8 runs on 11 hits and 8 walks. Rafe Perich (2), Gleider Figuereo (2), Paxton Kling (3) and Max Wagner (2) each had multi-hit games. Sebastian Walcott went 0-for-2 with three walks (one intentional) and a stolen base. Rafe Perich was charged with an error.
