Orioles get Cole for Christmas

Our Rangers lost 4 players in MLB’s Rule 5 Minor League Draft. It stinks for the Rangers but Christmas came early for the Baltimore Orioles as they selected Cole Uvila. Major League Baseball is in a lock down right now but that didn’t stop them from the minor league portion of the Rule-5 draft. MLB didn’t hold the Major League portion of the Rule-5 due to the lockout. The draft where teams can draft players that were left off the 40-man roster. This draft for the Minor-League phase, any player

Our RoughRiders 2021 season awards

Since the season ended just over a week ago for the Frisco RoughRiders, we thought we'd take a look back at some performances and hand out our Frisco RoughRiders 2021 season awards. First, we need to give a shout out to first-year manager Jared Goedert, who guided the team to their first winning season since 2014 with a record of 64-55, which was good for first place in the Double-A Central South. The team saw a lot of success this season with a ton of the organization's top prospects. Startin

Hans Crouse gets 2nd win; Jung hits HR # 5

A Hans Crouse start and a Josh Jung home run almost guarantees a win at Riders Field. That is exactly what happened in front of decent size crowd of 5,513. They watched the RoughRiders win by a final of 9-3 over the Springfield Cardinals and move to 39-24 on the season. The RoughRiders have 57 regular season games left for the regular season. Hans Crouse threw 5 no-hit innings. He still was charged with a run due to hitting a batter in the top of the 6th that came around to score after he was re

RoughRiders win 8-0, snap 3 game losing streak

We knew the losing streak wouldn't last much longer. The RoughRiders are back in the win column after losing 3-games in a row. They won by a final of 8-0 over the Arkansas Travelers (Mariners). They move to 37-20 on the season while the Travelers move to 29-27. On the mound Right-hander Noah Bremer, was just activated from the IL and made his 1st start of the season, replacing Cole Winn who was originally scheduled to pitch. Bremer (5.34) had a strong outing but didn't pitch the required 5 in

Hans Crouse loses no-hit bid in top of the 6th

RoughRiders fans filled the seats, packed the berms and the Lazy River at Riders Field. It was largest crowd of the season.  A crowd of 7,610 to be exact. The RoughRiders expect to see another big crowd tomorrow. On the mound Hans Crouse is one of my favorite pitching prospects in the Rangers farm system. In our top prospects article that we did for fun, we have him ranked as the number # 6 prospect in the Rangers farm system. The right-hander was hitting up to 95 MPH from what I saw. The r

RoughRiders win team record 11 games in a row

This RoughRiders won by a final of 3-1 over the Midland RockHounds (Athletics). With this win they have a team record of 11-wins in a row and a crowd of 2,523 was on hand to witness it. Something that no other team has done since the RoughRiders moved to Frisco in 2003. The previous record was 10 games in a row set in 2014 and tied yesterday June 29th. So how did the RoughRiders win their 11th game in a row? Behind some good pitching and timely hitting. On the mound Yerry Rodriguez (3.34) pit

Naturals Bobby Witt Jr, hit two home runs in win, one taken away.

The 13-14 Naturals came to town in tow with the # 7 ranked prospect in all of baseball, Bobby Witt Jr. He made his presence known in the top of the 1st when he took the 3rd pitch if his at-bat deep off Cole Winn, the Rangers top pitching prospect. Each team had three home runs. However, the one everyone was talking about on social media was the 2nd one by Bobby Witt Jr. He crushed a ball to Left field but kind of hop-skipped at the plate. The RoughRiders Catcher, Matt Whatley, called for the ba

Mission accomplished: Hans Crouse AA debut

One of the Texas Rangers top pitching prospects, right-hander Hans Crouse made his AA debut for the Frisco RoughRiders. I am a big fan and have been since he was drafted in 2017's 2nd round by my favorite team! The RoughRiders only managed to get one hit. However, that was all that was needed- thanks to some stellar pitching. They won this game by a final of 1-0 and move to 8-4 on the season and extend their win streak to two games. RoughRiders suffer 1st shutout after brilliant start by Winn

The RoughRiders were handed their first shutout of the season last night after a brilliant start by Winn. A good crowd was on hand, including Colby Lewis, to watch the top pitching prospect in the Rangers farm system. This was my first time to see Cole Winn pitch in person and he didn't disappoint. Most of my time was spent behind the lense of my camera but from my view behind home plate, it seemed that he was getting squeezed on some of his pitches. I was especially impressed when he was able

Cole Uvila | Texas Rangers pitching prospect

Cole Uvila, 26, is a right-handed relief pitcher in the Texas Rangers organization. Chances are you've heard his name come up recently and that is for good reason: he's talented. Uvila stands at 6'3 and 206 lbs and has a reprotiore that includes a curveball that has an elite-level spin rate. When the others in his position may have given up, Uvila has a never-quit attitude that has kept him in pursuit of the ultimate goal of playing in the MLB.
