MLB- Texas Rangers
Texas Rangers Prospect Update
Sam Huff: The power hitting catching prospect was called up by the Rangers on September 10th and has struggled up to this point. Struggles are to be expected for the youngster as this is his first taste of playing above high-a. For the remainder of the season expect him to be splitting time with Jeff Mathis. Leody Taveras: Taveras was once a highly touted prospect in the low minors, but the hype surrounding him has decreased substantially due to inconsistent performance against higher level pit
Kyle Cody gets 1st Win and Sam Huff hits his 1st home run
After losing three-games in a row, the Rangers got back into the win column on Sunday with their 7-2 win over the Angels. They move to 19-34 with only seven games remaining in the season. For those on #RockerWatch, the Rangers would have the 2nd pick if the season ended tonight. They are 4 games behind the Pittsburgh Pirates and will not pass them before the end of the season. Some exciting things happened in this win. Kyle Cody earned his 1st career win and Sam Huff hit his 1st home run. Hop
Rangers acquire right-hander Stephen Villines from the Mets
The Rangers have completed their trade with the Mets that sent Ariel Jurado for a player to be named later and cash. The Rangers recieved right-hander Stephen Villines. Villines was drafted by the Mets in the 10th round of the 2017 draft. In his three minor league seasons, he has a 10-7 record with a 2.67 earned run average. Last year, he spent time in Double-A and Triple-A. In Double-A, he pitched 45 innings and had a 1.20 earned run average with a 1.067 WHIP. He struggled in Triple-A with t
Albert Pujols powers Angels to 6-2 win, DeMarcus Evans makes debut
Albert Pujols had 660 home runs prior to the start of tonight's game. When the game was over the Angels won 6-2 and he had 662 home runs and he surpassed Willie Mays on the all-time home run list. Pujols stands alone in 5th place with 662. The next up is Alex Rodriguez with 696. On the mound Jimmy Herget (3.24) opened for the Rangers and walked two batters in his scoreless inning. Wes Benjamin (1-1, 4.41) pitched four innings and allowed two runs on six hits, two walks and four strikeouts. P
Ricky Vanasco scheduled for Tommy John surgery on Monday
Tommy John surgery is something that seems to be a common thing for Ranger fans to hear in recent years. Right-hander Ricky Vanasco, one of our favorite Rangers pitching prospects and is scheduled to have Tommy John surgery on Monday morning. Ricky has been at the alternate training site since being added to the 60-man player pool. Vanasco has risen up the Rangers prospect rankings in the system over the last year. This year he is listed as their # 18 ranked prospect. Here is wishing for a spe
DeMarcus Evans finally gets the call, Rangers roster updates.
Today is the day that a BIG amount of Rangers fans have been waiting for! Right-handed relief pitcher, Demarcus Evans got his call from the Rangers. Evans, 23 was drafted in 2015 draft in the 25th Round from Petal Mississippi. Additional notes on Evan (6' 5, 265) last year between High-A Down East and AA Frisco, Demarcus went 6-0 with 12 Saves and a whopping 0.90 era. I repeat 6-0 with 12 saves and 0.90 era. In his 60 innings gave up 23 hits, issued 39 walks and struck out 100! That was not th
Willie Calhoun activated and Heineman optioned to alternate site
Willie Calhoun has been activated from the IL and Scott Heineman was optioned to the alternate training site. Willie has been on the IL from a left hamstring injury for about a month. Prior to going on the IL, Calhoun was slashing a line of .172/.206/.224/.430 in 18 games with no home runs. Heineman was sent to the Alternate site in the corresponding roster move which keeps Eli White and Leody Taveras in the line-up. In his 24 games he has slashed a line of .154/.185/.269/.454 at the plate.
Lance Lynn earns 6th win as Rangers record 17th win
Lance Lynn did his thing on the mound yesterday in the Rangers 6-3 win over the Athletics yesterday. He pitched seven strong innings allowing only 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 10 Athletics. Seeing a line like that, makes me glad that we didn't trade Lynn if it wasn't for a teams top 5 prospect. On a 17-win team, Lance Lynn has six of those wins. Jonathan Hernández (2.81) pitched the top of the 8th inning. He allowed a home run and struck out one in his inning of work. Rafael Mont
Sherten Apostel makes MLB debut; gets 1st hit
Sherten Apostel made his Major League Debut for the Texas Rangers. Catcher Sam Huff made his debut yesterday. If that doesn't tell us the Rangers are evaluating for the future, I don't know what does. The Rangers just completed a double-header against the AL West leading Oakland Athletics. They won the first by a final of 5-2 and then lost the 2nd by a final of 10-1. 1st game of the double-header The Rangers won the first game by a final of 5-2 with rookie Wes Benjamin (1-0, 4.38) earning hi
Not Your Daddy's Recap for 9/11/2020
Welcome to “Not Your Daddy's Recap” and week 1432 of being in quarantine. I don't know about you but I'm going stir crazy. Not only am I cooped up but I'm cooped up with a squad of children. Send margaritas! Tonight the Rangers face the A's, but the most exciting event is that Sam Huff has been called up. He's one of two players I've been waiting for to get the big call (the other: WHERE IS DEMARCUS EVANS?!?!?). He's a top prospect but the jump from single A to the Bigs is, well, a big one. Th
